Nothing quite like oiling timber to get that grain pop ✨
That golden colour of this spotted gum cutting board is just divine 🤩
Evolve Woodworks - Mobile Sawmilling
Evolve Woodworks mobile saw milling specialises in turning laying logs into wooden wonders.
What would YOU make from this? 👀🪵
I recently found a local lady giving away a bunch of old Brush Box decking boards off their 40 year old deck. When I went to collect, I was given bonus offcuts that have never been used, stored for all this time.
Reclaimed timber has so much character — the challenge is deciding what to do with it!
What would you turn this into?
Bonus points for an idea we haven’t thought of! 👇

A few before & afters from the workshop 👌
There’s nothing quite like seeing a rough slab transformed into a flat, clean and usable piece of timber. 🌳➡️🪵
Here are a few slabs I’ve recently levelled and brought back to life, ready for their next chapter.

The Nudgee Beach Environmental Education Centre reached out last year about crafting some bench seats out of a fallen Silky Oak tree. I collected the logs, milled them in half and then began a journey of many firsts:
- first time making furniture for external use
- fist time to using a chainsaw to make joins and remove sap wood
- first time removing sap wood from the timber to prevent wood rot and ensuring longevity
- first time using timber grinding discs for carving and smoothing chainsaw cuts
- first time making a chair out of a solid log
The centre were ecstatic with the outcome and have already asked me about another project they’re looking into.

Completed a job at Loganlea State High School last week that proved trickier than expected. They were wanting these large logs to be split in half for massive posts and slabs as an entry sign for their Agricultural Centre.
Needless to say, cutting logs that aren’t perfectly round, nor perfectly equal in width from end to end can prove rather difficult.
However, I did my best and they were incredibly pleased with the outcome regardless. You never really know what’s going to pop up around the corner next.

What a difference some dressing makes!
This is the latest project completed for a customer - a huge 3.2m x 1.1m dining table top, biscuit joined together and dressed ready for finishing.
That grain and colour is just devine 😍

Another dining table in the books.
I have a sneak peak of this one a little while back and was able to deliver this to a very happy customer in Taigum.
When a customer throws around words like”family heirloom”, you know you’ve made something to be proud of.
That top is made out of 2 joined brush box slabs and the legs are made with spotted gum - utilising threaded inserts and bolts to make the table top and legs detach and easier to transport.
I look forward to the challenge of more builds like this in the future.

I’ve been slowly working on a new dining table project that I’m very close to finishing. This is a preview of one of the legs - resin filled gaps and no visible hardware. Always striving to give high quality finishes.

‘Froggy’ the site foreman at the Nudgee Beach Environmental Education Centre oversaw the log collection today. Despite not saying anything and remaining very still, I can tell he was impressed by our effort.
The Silky Oak logs I collected today will become bench seats for the students who attend the centre in the near future.
