Docker Street

A moment’s pause to reflect, finding beauty in the ordinary.

Docker Street is composed through soft thresholds, curved forms and a restrained material palette of timber, waxed hard plaster, linen and muted colour.

Light is drawn deep into the home, moving across timber ceilings, curved walls, quiet joinery and moments of domestic intimacy.

The result is a house of atmosphere and proportion — calm, tactile and gently expressive.

Whitlam Place

Conceived as a series of contained and intimate spaces, Whitlam Place is ordered around a central courtyard terrace — a quiet outdoor room held within the canopies of Ironbark trees.

The interior carries a sense of weight and permanence, expressed through generous scale, substantive proportions and monolithic forms. These are softened by subtle modulations of warm whites, stone, timber and soothing grey tones.

Curved geometries introduce a gentle rhythm throughout the home: rounded marble edges, circular tables, softened reveals and sculptural elements that bring a quiet musicality to the plan.

Across the rooms, delicate textures and natural materials catch the shifting light. The terrace tiles, stone surfaces and pale interior walls receive the soft, dappled shadow of leaves — bringing the movement of the trees into the experience of the architecture.

Whitlam Place, Fitzroy.

Set within Fitzroy’s Golden Triangle, between the civic presence of the Town Hall, the intimacy of Whitlam Place gardens, and the cultural charge of Brunswick, Gertrude and Smith Streets, this project was never simply about apartment living.

Whitlam Place was conceived as a building in conversation with its neighbourhood — drawing from the rhythm and ornament of nearby civic architecture, the texture of Fitzroy’s creative history, and the layered life of the street. Its fluted concrete skin, copper-oxide finish, framed windows, planted courtyards and neon-lit circulation spaces form a deliberately expressive language: part residence, part urban marker, part continuation of Fitzroy’s art and design culture.

The project’s impact lies in this balance — private homes that still contribute to the public character of place; a building that holds its own, while belonging deeply to its context.

Curves as conversation.

At Docker Street, geometry becomes gesture — a spiral stair that draws you upward, walls that soften corners, ceilings that follow their own logic.

We wanted architecture that felt less like rooms and more like a continuous unfolding. Timber ceiling warms the volumes overhead while curved forms below guide movement without instruction.

The result is a home that breathes differently. Light pools in unexpected places. Corners disappear. Every threshold feels like an invitation.
