I have chosen to buy a fabric lounge, but with thousands of fabrics on the rack, where do I even start?

The best person to answer this is Kathy.

The first thing to think about is the overall look you want.

Do you want something tailored and structured, or cosy and lived in?

Then think about how it will actually be used, day to day in family life, or somewhere that will not see quite as much action.

Once we know that, we can start narrowing down by texture, then by colour, and before you know it, a wall of thousands of fabrics becomes two or three easy choices.

Will it even fit?

Before you buy a rug for your living area, your hallway or under the dining table, there are a few things worth measuring first.

Do you want the rug to sit right under your furniture, or just touch the front legs of the sofa?

If it is going under a dining table, think about how far your chairs pull out and open, so you are not catching the legs on the edge of the rug every time someone sits down.

A few minutes with the tape measure now saves a lot of second guessing later.

The H2 dining chairs have just landed, and this deep green fabric might be my new favourite thing in the whole showroom.

It is not the most practical colour, I will admit that, but it is stunning.

What is practical is how they are built.

They lean back properly and they sit so well that you will not believe how comfortable a dining chair can be.

If green is not your thing, they come in a full range of colours, and in leather too.

Long weekend heads up.

Before you settle in for a few days off, we are open Sunday the 4th of October from 10 till 2, and closed on the public holiday on Monday.

If you are renovating or building, timing your furniture order matters more than people expect.

Buy too early, and you risk measuring for a house that does not exist yet.

Buy too late, and you could be left waiting months with an empty room.

Most of our custom furniture takes around four to six months to arrive, since a lot of it is manufactured overseas before it makes its way here.

The ideal approach is to order before you actually need it, and if it arrives early, we will store it free of charge short term until your home is ready.

You will not notice your mattress getting worse day by day, and that is exactly the problem.

Most mattresses last around ten to fifteen years, because the springs inside slowly lose their temper, much like the springs in your car.

The comfort layers compress over time too, and that is when you start to see a body shaped dip that really does need replacing.

It is also worth keeping a mattress protector on, so stains do not shorten its life even further.

The way we like to sit changes as we get older, and that is nothing to be concerned about.

What felt easy and comfortable in a beanbag in our twenties is not always practical to get in and out of later in life.
