🐴🐾 KINESIOLOGY TAPING – DOES DIRECTION MATTER?
Absolutely! But it might not be the direction you think! 👇
When applying kinesiology tape for swelling, you might assume the tape fingers should point towards the heart to encourage fluid drainage.
Interestingly, with lymphatic fan taping, it’s generally the opposite!
💡 Here’s why:
The wider base (anchor) of the tape is positioned closer to the area where we want the fluid to drain, while the thin fingers extend out over the swollen area.
The tape is applied with little to no tension, allowing the skin to move naturally.
The idea behind this technique is that the tape may gently lift the skin during movement, potentially reducing pressure in the superficial tissues and assisting lymphatic fluid movement.
🌿 The aim?
To encourage fluid movement from the swollen area towards the body’s lymphatic drainage pathways.
It’s not about pulling fluid along with the tape. It’s about how the tape interacts with the skin and underlying tissues.
Research into the effectiveness of lymphatic taping is still mixed, but it’s an interesting technique used in both human and animal bodywork.
A little knowledge goes a long way – even something as simple as tape direction has a purpose!
