Cycling Without Age Gold Coast offers free trishaw rides for seniors and people with disabilities, and we’d love to take you out for a spin.

Our volunteer pilots are ready to roll from Paradise Point and The Spit/Main Beach, creating 𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗷𝗼𝘆, 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗵‑a𝗶𝗿 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗼𝗺. Whether it’s your first ride or your favourite weekly outing, you’re always welcome.

Three brand‑new, bright‑eyed trishaw pilot trainees turned up today despite the incessant rain — and took to their training like ducks to water.

They arrived a little wet behind the ears… and by the end they were so soaked in knowledge they could’ve been mistaken for honorary amphibians.
Their smiles brightened up the whole day, even if the sun refused to clock in.

And yes — every single one of them passed with flying colours, graduating proudly from the prestigious, world‑renowned, internationally acclaimed:

…also known as The Carport, where soggy socks are a badge of honour!

Once again, a huge shout‑out to our trainer Steve for showering our newest recruits with knowledge, without dampening their spirits.

Huge kudos to these legends for showing up, showing heart, and proving that no amount of drizzle, downpour, or damp socks can wash away our spirit.

Today’s training has well and truly whet their appetite to provide more rides, more smiles, more often — rain, hail or shine.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸 — and a huge moment for our little movement on the Gold Coast.
Today Cr Shelley Curtis officially handed over the keys to what she fondly calls the “𝗜𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗰 𝗖𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗔𝗴𝗲 𝗕𝘂𝘀” — our former City of Gold Coast Community Use Vehicle.
This is more than a van.
It’s the workhorse that keeps our trishaws rolling: transporting them for rides, servicing and repairs, helping us respond quickly when something needs fixing, promoting Cycling Without Age - Gold Coast wherever it goes, and taking care of the countless behind‑the‑scenes tasks that keep our service running smoothly.
We’re deeply indebted to Cr Shelley Curtis and the City of Gold Coast for their ongoing, enthusiastic support. This commitment ensures we can continue delivering fresh air, connection, and joy to older people and those living with disability across our community.

🚨 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗘‑B𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗟𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘀𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗨𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲 — What It Means for Cycling Without Age Gold Coast and people with disability.
Many of our volunteers and supporters have asked whether the proposed e‑bike legislation changes will affect Cycling Without Age Gold Coast and our sister chapters throughout Queensland.
At this stage, it appears 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻𝘁, and we are still waiting for clarification from the Queensland Government.
During the consultation period, we were one of 3,200 groups and individuals who made submissions about the impact of these changes.
As the proposals currently stand — and as confirmed by Bicycle Queensland — 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗿‑a𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗯𝗶𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗹 because they do not carry an 𝗘𝗡‑1𝟱𝟭𝟵𝟰 compliance sticker.
Under the new legislation, that alone will make them 𝗻𝗼𝗻‑𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝘁 and therefore i𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗹.
No pathway is being offered to assess or certify any e‑bike to meet EN‑15194 standards — even though 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗿 𝗯𝗶𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗱𝗼.
Without that pathway, 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗹 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗿 𝗯𝗶𝗸𝗲𝘀 risk invalidating our insurance and permits.
These bikes were funded through government and community grants, have operated safely for over five years, and have provided thousands of joyful, dignified rides.
𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗺, 𝗯𝗿𝗼𝗸𝗲𝗻 𝗮 𝗹𝗮𝘄, 𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗸 — yet they now face being banned by 𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘀𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘂𝗻𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝘀.
Cycling Without Age Gold Coast and its volunteers supports the need to address genuine safety concerns and agree with most of the proposed changes — 𝗕𝗨𝗧 - 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴!
This is not just a bureaucratic oversight; 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝗮𝗻 𝘂𝗻𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗯𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆.
We are caught in the middle of changes that ignore diversity and inclusion, and risk silencing one of Queensland’s most compassionate community initiatives — leaving behind those who rely on these rides to connect with nature, friendship, and freedom.

It is an outcome we find deeply troubling and utterly unacceptable.

Cycling Without Age Gold Coast is delighted to be one of the community groups successful in the City of Gold Coast Defibrillator Grant Program.

A huge thank‑you to Mayor Tom Tate for his time today — and we were proud to present him with a copy of our Timeless Rides book as a token of our appreciation.

Our new defibrillator is a meaningful investment in the safety and protection of our volunteers, our passengers, and the wider community we serve.

❎ They weren’t loud.
❎ They weren’t dramatic.
✅ But they changed lives.
A hand held a little longer.
A story shared that hadn’t been told in decades.
A guest who hadn’t felt the ocean breeze in years finally closing their eyes and smiling.
A volunteer discovering that 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗼𝗼.
We don't just move people from A to B —
we moved people from loneliness to laughter, from isolation to belonging, from being unseen to being valued.
𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝗶𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿…
If something as simple as a bike ride can restore dignity and joy,
