INTERNATIONAL WORK

Vietnam & New Zealand:
Over the past few years I have been working with TLC modular. TLC modular are construction company specialising in modular builds. TLC head office and fabrication facility are based in the south of Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City and Vung Tau respectively). TLC are working closely with the NZ government and associated departments to assist with the housing shortages NZ is currently experiencing. At this time all projects related to housing are in design, planning and negotiations.


The Role:
My ongoing services to TLC are in design, compliance and approvals. What this means is I take concept designs which I complete the detail design on in accordance with building codes and then arrage the necessary approvals. This work involves dealing with all consultants, drawing teams and local government.

The project:
In 2019 we completed the first full modular build hotel in New Zealand. My involvement in this project took me to the office and workshop in Vietnam where I oversaw documentation and was actively involved in the fabrication process. From Vietnam to Christchurch New Zealand where I worked through the approval process and assisted the project management team on site. It was a unique amd thrilling experience to be part of a team concieving and delivering this project, now trading as the "Arden Hotel" Christchurch.

Next:
We are crrently in the design and approval stage of our next hotel for the Arden Group to be located beach front in Napier New Zealand. This project is now ready for development anpproval and has undergone stringent design assesment and being preprared for building approval. Our intent is to have all the approvals in place by the time this Covid 19 interuption is behind us.

Grouped housing project - Design sketches:

Work in Progress - Lesmurdie Residence, designed for one of my first customers who continue to use my services today. This is a traditional house with classic detailing quite a change from the modern forms I have been working with recently.

Archicad's improved rendering tools make it faster and easier now to generate rendered sketches.

November 18 we were scheduled to meet with the DAC (Design Advice Committee) City of Vincent to present our proposal for a Boutique Hotel on William Street Perth. I was expecting a positive response with a request for more detail and some advice on amendments, I certainly was not expecting the outcome we received. After my presentation the members of the DAC voiced their opinions and I must admit I was shocked. Keep in mind these members of the DAC are practicing architects who are locally acclaimed and have several achievements between them . Headed up by Sasha Ivanovich, the committee unanimously supported my design and recommended it for a commendation of design excellence. HUH!! i was taken back by such a compliment by these impressive piers and felt like the guy who was seriously undercharged for a good product. It was like " Ok thank you" then get out of here as fast as I can before they have realised what they have done. So here is my scheme for a new boutique hotel in our city. A very special thank you to my clients Shu Ya and Xiayi Guo who have trusted me with their investment and future.

I recently had the pleasure to see an addition which I designed now completed and being lived in by a very proud owner builder couple. It was such a great feeling coming back and seeing the design finished beautifully and also enhanced by some clever design decisions made during construction. The finished result is a credit to the owners and I am grateful for having been trusted to help them create their perfect home.
