There’s something about a morning at Big Loaf Factory Bakery — the smell of fresh bread, something warm from the bakery, and a good coffee to bring it all together.

A few weeks ago, Big Loaf’s Head Barista Summah joined our Head Roaster Marte at the Karvan roastery for a tasting session, working through different blend ratios to find the one that best suits the Big Loaf experience.

The result is Karvan Seasonal Blend 1, created exclusively for the Hot Bread Group and now proudly pouring at Big Loaf.

Bringing together Colombian and Brazilian coffees, it’s rich, sweet and full-bodied, with notes of Chocolate Mousse, Cherry Ripe and Caramel Fudge — made to pair beautifully with milk and your favourite bakery treats.

Our Round 6 Karvan Art Cup features Perth artist Rob Forlani and his beautiful artwork, Nights in Malta.

Inspired by the glowing streets of Valletta during Notte Bianca—where music, color, light, and art fill the city—Rob brings that same warmth and joy into this piece. And there’s a little Fremantle in there too. Think gelato, lavender, honey, and those sweet little memories that somehow find their way into a cup of coffee.

Rob describes the artwork as “warm, happy, and comforting—just like a good cup of coffee.” We couldn’t have said it better.

We love seeing art find its way into everyday moments, and this one feels especially good to have around.

Created exclusively for Hot Bread Group, this blend brings together Colombia Las Galeras and Brazil Sucuri Farm for a rich, full-bodied cup with Chocolate Mousse, Cherry Ripe & Caramel Fudge.

We’ve been busy in the roastery, and I’m excited to share our new Seasonal Blend.

I travelled to Brazil to visit Danilo Barbosa and his family at Sucuri Farm. Meeting the people behind the coffee was special, and their natural lots bring big, bold sweetness. I haven’t made it to Colombia yet, but I know a good Colombian when I taste one. Galeras is sweet, clean and full of fruit and chocolate, and it balances the Brazil perfectly.

Together they harmonise, which is what a blend must do. In the cup: chocolate mousse, cherry ripe and caramel fudge, with a pecan and dark chocolate finish.

I also made a small tweak to the roast development. The result is a fuller body that carries through milk even better, and it’s still sweet enough for black.

A little International Coffee Day celebration.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our International Coffee Day tasting! It was wonderful to spend the morning together, sharing our new October Single Origins, tasting some fresh coffees straight off the roaster, and having a little fun with our Vietnamese coffee experience.

October feels like a good time to pause and say thank you. And this tasting was our way of celebrating not only International Coffee Day, but also you, our wonderful coffee community.

Thank you for your continued support, for choosing Karvan, and for being part of our journey. We’re so grateful to have you along for the ride.

September has been all about our coffee community.

From brewing and tasting together to getting competitive, creative and out on the road. It’s been such a good month of sharing coffee with the people who make this community what it is.

We started the month with our very first free filter workshop, then came our second Karvan Cup Latte Art Competition. We also welcomed a new piece to our Karvan Art Cup project, featuring the beautiful artwork of Teresa.

And somewhere in between all of that, we made our way down to Dwellingup to visit one of our favourite café partners, Garden Eats. If you’ve been thinking about taking a day trip to Dwellingup this spring, consider this your sign. Go for the drive, stay for a coffee, and show some love to this beautiful little café.

Looking back, September really was about the people and everyone who continues to share a cup with us.

Now we’re heading into October, with International Coffee Day just around the corner… and we’ve got something exciting brewing.
