✨ From Regionals to Representing Australia ✨
Daniel Peto’s WorldSkills journey started with a passion for tech — and quickly turned into an international cyber security career boost.
Supported by his TAFE lecturers and mentors including Daniel Felipe and Paris Gallardo, Daniel was selected through a TAFE CTF competition to compete at the WorldSkills National Championships in Brisbane, where he and teammate Alexis Wepener placed second overall in Cyber Security. Lachlan Gelavis, who competed internationally at WorldSkills Lyon 2024 in Cyber Secuirty has been offering his valuable advice and guidence from his own personal WorldSkills experience.
That success opened the door to the Skillaroos program. Since then, Daniel has competed internationally in Taipei (placing second again!) and is now training to represent Australia at the upcoming international competition with Skillaroos teammate Dylan Wondal, in Shanghai later this year.
WorldSkills has helped Daniel grow in unexpected ways. Competing under pressure strengthened his confidence, time management, communication, and ability to stay calm and focused in demanding environments.
💬 Daniel’s advice?
“Give it a go — even if you’re not sure you’re ready. WorldSkills pushes you to grow and opens doors you didn’t expect.”
For Daniel, the Regional Competitions are more than a contest, they’re a chance to challenge yourself, build real world skills, connect with industry mentors, and discover your potential.

When Lachlan Basc entered the WorldSkills Regional Competition, he couldn’t have imagined just how far the experience would take him — but saying yes to the challenge proved to be a life changing decision.
Lachlan’s WorldSkills journey reached an unforgettable high at the National Championships, where he claimed Gold in 3D Digital Game Art. The moment his name was called on stage is one he’ll never forget - the surge of adrenaline and the overwhelming realisation that not only was he a gold medallist in his state, but in his country too. That success has now led Lachlan to the next stage of his journey - he is proudly a member of the Skillaroos, currently training to represent Australia at the WorldSkills International Competition in Shanghai 2026.
Just recently, Lachlan travelled to Hong Kong to compete in the 2026 Global Digital Skills Championships (GDSC) for 3D Digital Game Art. Across the intense two‑day event, competitors showcased outstanding professional skill, creativity and innovation in 3D game art.
Beyond the medals, WorldSkills has helped Lachlan grow in ways far beyond his trade. Through training, travel, and connections with talented competitors from across the country, he’s gained a deeper understanding of both his abilities and his potential and discovered just how much he’s capable of.
💬 Lachlan’s advice for anyone thinking about competing?
“Believe in yourself and your abilities. Positive self‑talk is important - sometimes you just have to hear it from yourself and give it all that you’ve got.”
For Lachlan, the Regional Competitions are an opportunity not to be missed. They’re a chance to test your skills, build your portfolio, gain experience in your trade, and challenge yourself.
