Gretsch Falcons are gorgeous enough. But a double-cutaway Falcon …and in gorgeous midnight sapphire! How much is too much? It’s never enough.

I had this beautiful Gretsch Falcon Pro Ltd Center Block Double-Cutaway in for a full setup. What a dream!
I love my Gretsch and even though I may own a Falcon, that’s no reason to not daydream about this dark gem.

TV Jones Classic pickups, center block Hollowbody, body mounted tune-o-matic bridge and a Bigsby vibrato. Full and bright in all the right ways.

This one is owned by and I believe he may have it for sale. Obviously it was recently serviced. So she’s ready to play.

Great guitar. Light weight and a great voice.
Looks like an Ash body with a superb shell pink over the top. Paired nicely with an all rosewood neck. Pretty schmick!
Punchy set of P90s — perfect! And a great Mastery bridge just complete the package.

She’s owned by Jake Quirk who had it serviced for his for his involvement in an album recording.

This is the signature model Gretsch made for my good friend and great player Droff (I still just call him punk).
The Gretsch 'Nigel Hendroff' Penguin.
Great colour too - Dark Cherry Metallic Flame. A deep cherry transparent finish on beautiful flame maple top, with a little metallic fleck in it. It’s crazy. And if that wasn’t a hard enough finish to do, it’s high gloss but with matte on the back of the neck. Plus, faux tortoiseshell binding and pickguard.

As I mentioned, I have one of these guitars myself and this one is not mine, it is owned by a different Marcus.
Marcus Oostenbroek dropped this one off for a service and some love. Setup and ready to go for a recent album recording Marcus did at Sanctuary Church.

Gretsch Guitars Hendroff

“The Beast”
The Gretsch BST-1000 from the Baldwin era of Gretsch history. These vintage instruments were only made for 3 calendar years, from 1979 to 1981 in a time when Gretsch had been sold outside of the family and was owned by Baldwin Pianos.

Although the Baldwin years are far from Gretsch’s golden age, there are a few little gems and great guitars that surprise people.
They were trying new things and wanted to make a solid body with a fast neck and modern humbucking pickups.

The BST line was the result. Also known as the Beast.
Baldwin stopped making Gretsch in 1981 and by 1985 the Gretsch name was returned to the Gretsch Family with Fred Gretsch III buying the company back.

Jon Foreman from Switchfoot is known to use one of these BST models. He actually sings and screams into the pickups live sometimes.

This particular one is owned by Jake Quirk and was in for a setup and service last week. It’s a great sounding guitar. And has this great ‘70s look to it.
Super easy to play as well with its almost flat looking 12” Radius fretboard and slim maple neck.

Added some strap-locks while side of stage over the weekend as well. Safety first.

Not your normal Gretsch. But a great piece of history and truly great sounding guitar!

Gretsch Guitars

Fresh off the work bench this week, an Ernie Ball MusicMan Axis Super Sport Semi-Hollow. Pretty rare bird this one, don’t see many Semi-Hollow Axis models ever.

Did a setup on this one for Jared Brady, with a set of Ernie Ball Cobalt Flat-wounds. Yes, Flat-wounds!!
Intonation really looks different with flat-wounds, especially when it’s a lighter gauge than the jazz players use.

Back in the very early ‘90s guitarist Eddie Van Halen made waves in the rock guitar community when he collaborated with Ernie Ball MusicMan and they released the Eddie Van Halen model. Small body, flame maple top, Bolt-on maple necks with a small headstock and locking Floyd Rose.
That guitar was the beginnings of what became the Axis line of guitars. Still part of the EBMM guitar line today.

A few cool features on this one is the DiMarzio New’Tron pickups that have been put in, the highly figured maple top, stunning birds-eye maple neck and have a look at that compensated nut!
