You might have noticed that at Vanwood we're always frothing, pumped, stoked, amped (insert appropriate adjective, here).
It's because we're building vans that allow folks to fully embrace and enjoy their hobbies. Even if we're tasked with designing a van for a profession (we've worked for a surveyor), we're making that more enjoyable on a daily basis. No more daily grind!
The Vanwood family surfs and foils with two young grams. That's a lot of stuff. Having our van makes trips to the beach or on holidays, an absolute dream.

Vanwood is looking for a skilled tradesman to work on bespoke van fit outs and conversions in our Northern Beaches workshop.
Working with a small passionate team, in a fast growing industry, enjoy using your previous skills on something different and get the satisfaction and job diversity of creating one of a kind tiny homes and living spaces on wheels.
Previous experience on van building is not essential, but a full time or part time position would suit but not limited to a qualified Carpenter, Joiner, Cabinet maker or shipwright. Would also consider someone with previous van building experience.
There is an option for flexible working hours.

HOLA, I’m Fabian and I work at Vanwood. I'm 29 years old, was born in Germany and raised in Paraguay, South America.
This is my story.

At the age of 23 I made the decision to head off backpacking. My first solo travel was in New Zealand where I discovered so many new things, met new people and realised that this was the life for me. I learned how to surf, discovered hiking and camping, watched sunrises on the summits of mountains. My eyes were wide open ✈
The pandemic forced me to stop my travels, and in July 2020 I was finally able to fly home to see my folks in Paraguay. I had a lot of spare time and yearning to travel some more, I bought a van to convert into a camper. I told my uncle about this idea, and he immediately told his friend who wanted to start a project ASAP. So we did, on his 1968 Volkswagen T1 Kombi.
After I finished this project I had another customer lined up with an 1977 Volkswagen T2 Kombi. That’s when I decided I could do this for a living. I had no idea about woodworking, everything I was doing was via videos on YouTube and always researching better ways of fitting out camper vans. In my first year of my “Woodwork Paraguay” business I fitted out six Kombis. Business was great!
I really wanted to improve my skills and become a better cabinet maker plus do some more overseas travel, so traveling to Australia became part of the plan. Just before I left, I had a customer with a Toyota Noah then my first Mercedes Sprinter and a parallel project with an old Mercedes Bus for a family of 5.
Everything was finished on time and here I am....fulfilling my dream and working for Ben at Vanwood, learning everyday and doing what I love. ✌️

Equal parts creative and technical, a proper van build is crafting a tiny home on wheels. It may sound simple, but it ain’t!
Sure, if you want to use cheap materials and off-the-shelf kits to fit out your van interior, it might be pretty straightforward. We're so very far from being in that domain.
Vanwood van builds are completely customised, solid structured, luxuriously appointed tiny houses. Everything is measured (measured again) and hand-made to fit, using the best materials available. You could call us van architects, but it might go to our heads.
