✨ Kitchen Storage Installation – When the Plan Doesn’t Go to Plan ✨

First mistake of the day…

I completely forgot to book the electrician. 🤦‍♂️

That one's on me.

But it wasn't going to stop the installation. We prepared and ran the cabling ready for the electrician to come back and complete the fit-off.

Then things got interesting… 😬

🔨 First cable access hole — perfect.

🔨 Second hole — why am I hitting something solid?

At first, I thought we'd found a stud.

Then I walked into the room behind the wall…

🚿 Bathroom. Shower. Recessed niche.

That could have become a VERY bad day. 😂

Luckily, we'd hit the framing and caused no damage whatsoever.

So, change of plan.

We abandoned that location, repositioned the new power point beside the existing outlet and kept moving.

That's renovation work.

You can measure.
You can plan.
You can prepare.

But sometimes what's hidden behind the wall has other ideas.

The important part is knowing when to stop, reassess and find another solution. 👌

And despite the surprises, the new kitchen storage joinery is installed!

The painter wasn't satisfied with the finish on the doors and drawer fronts, so they're being resprayed rather than installing something that isn't up to standard.

✨ Dishwasher Installation – The Millimetres Matter ✨

While replacing water-damaged kickboards on this kitchen, we noticed something completely outside our scope of works…

The dishwasher hadn't been installed correctly.

Rather than walking past it, we thought this was the perfect opportunity to show how these appliances should be set up — and hopefully help a few other cabinetmakers along the way. 👇

🔧 Most modern dishwashers can be levelled while they're already in position.

✔️ Two adjustable feet at the front
✔️ Rear height adjustment accessed from the front on many models
✔️ Level the appliance correctly
✔️ Align it precisely with the surrounding cabinetry
✔️ Check your gaps before calling it finished

This becomes especially important with integrated dishwashers, where a few millimetres can completely change how the finished kitchen presents.

📏 The difference between a basic installation and a great installation can literally be millimetres.

It seems insignificant…

Until you stand back and look at the finished job.

We corrected this dishwasher while we were there — even though it wasn't part of our scope.

✨ Water-Damaged Panel Replacement – Thinking Outside the Box ✨

Not every repair is as straightforward as it first appears.

This water-damaged panel was trapped between shelving, the top, and the flooring. Removing it completely would have meant dismantling large sections of perfectly good joinery and causing unnecessary damage.

So we looked for a better solution.
