My veggies patch.. My third spring as home grower πŸ’š

They say it takes 3 to find your gardening flow… and my personal experience, this is the case.

First year… oh seasonal planting, oh no, what is that, oops, oh soil health is the most important thing, but how, what- direct sow root and above ground veggies in pots first but some direct sow.. oh my head hurts. oh what is that thing eating my crops, oh what- they are not ladybeetles, how did that die, oh crap, what- bees pollinate our veggies but some self pollinate , what- there are determinant and non determinant types, oh some need frames and some need climbing frames… oh geez I feel lost and overwhelmed…. yippppeeee I grew my first πŸ₯’πŸ₯•πŸ…πŸ₯¬πŸ§„πŸ§…πŸ«œ

2 year… okay guides, structure, oh yes I remember that, right let’s get all of the resources, let’s fix this soil and add in all of the goodness before each new crop, oh no too much goodness, pH levels, what is that, oh how did that die, oh I remember Keith saying, what do you mean companion planting, oh heirloom seeds, certificated organic, moon calendar planting, oh yes spring is coming let’s get prepared for pests 🀺 and let’s put in flowers for our 🐝 friends, oh oops definitely planted too much in that bed, oh deep watering … feeling more confident but very structured … yippeee for homegrown meal πŸ’šπŸ₯¬πŸ…πŸ₯•πŸ₯’πŸŒ±πŸ«œ

3 year (now)… soil health βœ… and understand why βœ…, companion planting.. some what tick βœ… more confident with what each veggie needs for growing βœ…, direct sowing most thingsβœ… plant dies, are well out you go, what is that- I don’t remember what I planted there, feeling more relaxed and less stressed about structureβœ…, being more playful having everything all mixed in βœ…

I have definitely found my patch flow.. for the first two I went into a deep dive of learning and this year I feel like I am not having to over think it. 🌱

I am extremely fortunate Keith Edwards magically came into my life in my first year of growing. He took me under his gardening wing and I have been able to share my learnings along the way with Keith πŸ₯ΉπŸͺ½πŸŒ±πŸ‘©β€πŸŒΎ Keith Edwards πŸ’šοΏ½

For the beginners πŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’š

To all the beginners out there, who might want some extra tips with the resources that I find helpful in the patch.. this is what I use as a rookie gardener. πŸ’•πŸ’šπŸŒ±

I’m sure there are things I have left off… that I am sure I will remember later like a soil thermometer and a pH soil test πŸ˜…

Hope you find this useful if you can keep can keep up with my jumping around brain πŸ˜…πŸŒ±πŸ’šπŸ’•)

I also missed saying, I make sure my netting is off once the veggies are flowering (the veggies that need pollination from the bees, like cucumbers and zucchinis) as you don’t want to block out little bee friends out.

Big love rookie gardener, Jo Henley πŸ‘©β€πŸŒΎπŸ’šπŸŒ±

You have probably heard a 1000 times.. if you are not feeling motivated, just start. Yeah great thanks for the advice.. because it feels too big to even start.

I have felt I have lost motivation, passion, drive… life demands feel so heavy sometimes, you just want to hide under a rock.

I know it’s okay to have those moments, to reset and go through that moment under the rock.. but there is so much beauty and joy that you miss under the rock… even when you don’t know where to start nor have the motivation… you just need to start. Start with one thing, a small part of the patch.

I did this last night with the kids.. I went out to pull a few carrots.. and then started pulling out more.. I was going to keep going on my own but though geez this feels so good to be in the patch, so I went and said to the kids.. who wants to pull some carrots out.? Being 7.30pm on a Friday night, both tried from the week, they looked unbothered, I showed the a bunch of carrots in my hand… next minute.. we were pulling out a bed of carrots all together. πŸ₯•πŸ₯•πŸ₯• the genuine joy we all felt was the most beautiful time together. πŸ’šπŸŒ±

That’s life isn’t it. Just starting can feel the impossible.. but if you look at it as just one carrot (whatever it may be in life)… rather than.. I need to reset all my beds for spring planting, replenish, figure out planting configurations, replant, net the beds for the black birds, get stakes and frames ready (that feels like mountain when you have been under a rock)… last night began with one carrot and today we are go start with one bolted lettuce.. and next minute the patch will be spring planted.

There are times when the kids and I are in full garden lifestyle.. sometimes life takes us off the garden path.. πŸŒ€ all of a sudden you are back in the over demanding life cycle.. but we know the benefits that a patch life brings..

Not just home grown food, its connection to nature, the simple life joys, appreciating the little things, raising children who have a place to learn, be curious, find calmness, support wellbeing.. the thing is.. adults need this just as much xx

Long story short.. feeling in a rut? go pull a carrot πŸ₯• πŸ˜…

Big love Jo πŸ₯•

Last weekend Ann received her July Customer Monthly Winner garden bed … well actually garden beds 🀭πŸ₯³πŸ˜πŸ˜ Ann put her winning $200 towards 2 wickings beds to join her other wicking beds and standard beds πŸ₯³πŸ˜πŸŒ±πŸ’š yippee for more growing space 😍 Ann was also our April monthly winner and had picked out a lily pond πŸͺ·πŸ’š

Saturday.. went a little something like this πŸ˜†

Me calling dad πŸ“ž πŸ“£ dddaaaddddd … tell them not to leave until I get there, I’m on my way πŸŒͺ️πŸŒͺ️πŸŒͺ️πŸŒͺ️ (me wanting to give Ann a hug πŸ€—)

Dad waiting calmly with Collin at the wilks park meeting point in Wagga with the Ute loaded πŸ˜…

πŸŒͺ️πŸŒͺ️πŸŒͺ️πŸŒͺ️ we arrived (me, nanny and the kids πŸŒͺοΈπŸ˜†)

Collin- Ann is on her way to see you 😍πŸŒͺ️πŸŒͺ️πŸŒͺ️

Yippeee Ann arrives πŸ’šπŸ₯³πŸŒ±πŸ‘©β€πŸŒΎπŸ˜πŸ’•

We get our hug πŸ€—πŸ€—πŸ€—πŸ€—πŸ€—πŸ˜…

Why I shared this run of events? πŸ˜† because small businesses are not just business owners and customers, it’s human connection and genuine appreciation πŸ’šπŸ€—πŸ€—πŸ€— I could of said to dad tell them sorry I’m still 10 minutes away and sorry I missed them.. but then I am just a chick selling garden beds 😩 mum and dad do our deliveries, but when the stars align, it’s so good see our customers excited faces πŸ˜πŸ’šπŸŒ±

Big love xx Jo Henley.. sending a big hug to you all πŸ€—

Congratulations Ann and Collin πŸ’šπŸ’š happy growing πŸ₯³ πŸ€—

πŸŒ±πŸŒ±πŸŒ±πŸ’šπŸ’š so good to see you both and loved our chats about gardening for wellbeing πŸŒ±πŸ’š I love and appreciate all your shares from filling, to making worm hotels, to growing πŸ’šπŸ’š
