Moora Moora Co-operative Community Moora Moora is a residential co-operative community made up of about 50 adults and 20 children. We have been living together intentionally since 1974.

We are open for tours on our visitor days, held on the first Sunday of every month at 1.30pm (except on days of Total Fire Ban). On these days you can join a tour of the property, meet some of the members and residents of the community and discuss Moora Moora and how we work together to manage our community and property. Please meet at the Octagon (the brown timber building visible from the front gate). Tour departs at 1.30pm sharp. Parking is located on the north side of the building.

Spring Internship Applications Closing This Saturday!

If you’ve been holding off on applying for any reason, there’s still time.

Come spend some time getting to know the rhythms of community life - get involved in building up the garden as the growing season approaches, enjoy cooking for others and being nourished in return, build practical and communitarian skills, and bask in the serenity of misty mountain walks through native forest.

The program is designed to fit alongside existing commitments, including remote or part-time work, and there’s plenty of time for relaxing, socialising, and pursuing your own hobbies and interests.

We’re looking forward to welcoming our new participants and are excited to see what skills, energy and fresh perspectives they will bring!

Applications close Saturday 15th. Find all the details and apply here: https://mooramoora.org.au/index.php/internship-program/

Sunday was a gorgeous sunny day as promised, and our monthly working bee smashed through the jobs list!

The first weekend of the month is always 'co-op weekend', with a community meeting for decision making on Saturday and a working bee on Sunday to take care of our land, buildings, and shared projects.

This month we gave the weeds around our beloved swimming hole a run for their money, relocated a collection of swanky solar batteries, cleared fallen trees on the Eco-trail, and helped move a spare fireplace to a new home where it will be much appreciated this winter.

Workday lunch was beautiful, with care taken to arrange flowers on each of the tables and a yummy Spanish theme. Paella was the star of the show and a big thanks to Mudburra cluster for feeding us! Each month we rotate which cluster takes care of Workday lunch and the Visitors Tour, so everyone gets a turn and no job falls on the same people every time.

Speaking of the Visitors Tour, we welcomed a really lovely group of 20 people and were impressed by the thoughtful and engaged questions they came with. We were glad to share a little bit of our stories and home, and hope we captured a little of the magic, while keeping it real!

For anyone curious, pop our next visitors day in your calendar - September 6th.

Over recent months, one of our members has undertaken a generous project, regularly volunteering her time to share home-cooked meals with the community. She plans nutritious and tasty meals for a range of diets, then gets together a small team of helpers to cook and package.

This week four Moora Moorians met to prepare an abundance of Massaman veggie curry, hearty Tuscan soup and mouthwatering zucchini slice. "A warming experience in every way!" according to one of the cooks.

After the Woven Intentional Communities Conference last year, there was strong agreement that sharing meals together more often was one of the things we would love and feel nourished by, and this project provides a natural continuation of the conversation.

Giving our time in service is one of the mechanisms by which a community thrives and individuals feel part of something bigger than themselves. Those involved in the cooking had a really lovely four hours together, and made yummy, wholesome food to fill the bellies of those they love - what better use of a morning could there be?

Ever daydreamed about buying land and living off-grid with your friends?

Moora Moora’s Spring Internship Program is your chance to give community living a real-world test run.

In exchange for just one day of work each week, you’ll spend two months living in an established off-grid intentional community on a beautiful mountaintop, just 1.5 hours from Melbourne.

Attend our Living in Community workshop weekend for free, and get a feel for community life through shared dinners, hands-on projects and honest fireside conversations about how it all really works.

We look at how Australians have lived together in the past — and what those lessons might offer us today. From the tightly packed worker’s cottages of the early 1900s, where strong community bonds helped people get by, to the bold experiments in communal and cooperative living during the 1970s, ...
