Bangladesh and India have agreed to settle a portion of their bilateral trade transactions in their own currencies which are Taka and Rupee, to reduce the pressure on the US dollar. Sonali Bank and Eastern Bank will open accounts in two Indian lenders, State Bank of India and ICICI Bank. The two Indian banks will also open similar accounts in the two Bangladeshi banks. Opening of these accounts is known as "Vostro" and "Nostro" accounts in global accounting.

Bangladeshi apparel exporter “Wisdom Attires” now feature the words "Bangladeshe Toiri" (Made in Bangladesh) tags on garments being exported to the Malaysian market.

Bangladesh has for the first time exported an oceangoing high-speed, multipurpose container vessel to the United Kingdom (UK).

Ananda Shipyard and Slipways Ltd handed over the ship to its UK buyer, Enzian Shipping Company Ltd, on Tuesday at an event held at the InterContinental in Dhaka.

The 364 feet long, 54 feet wide and 27 feet deep ship has a 4,130 horsepower engine and can reach speeds of up to 12.5 nautical miles/hour.

A cargo ship carrying a record number of reconditioned cars from Japan reached Mongla Port directly for the first time on Sunday. The Malaysian flag carrier, MV Malaysia Star, anchored at jetty 6 of the port with 1,280 cars onboard.

The arrival of the ship is a result of the Padma Bridge, which has reduced the cost and distance for importers who are now able to bring cars directly to Mongla Port.
Prior to the bridge, ships carrying cars from Japan would unload some goods at Chattogram Port before continuing on to Mongla Port.

Mongla Port Authority Chairman Rear Admiral Mohammad Musa said that due to the Padma Bridge, the interest in Mongla Port from importers and exporters has increased as the distance from capital Dhaka by road has decreased.
