Heartiest congratulations to Professor Mohammad Abul Faiz on being honored with the prestigious Dr. LEE Jong-wook Memorial Prize for Public Health by the World Health Organization (WHO) at the 79th World Health Assembly.
This distinguished recognition is awarded to individuals whose contributions to public health go far beyond routine professional responsibilities and embody Dr. Lee Jong-wook’s vision of serving underprivileged and marginalized populations.
Prof. Faiz has dedicated his life to improving the health of rural, poor, and vulnerable communities in Bangladesh and beyond. His pioneering work in infectious diseases and tropical medicine has had a profound global impact. Through landmark research on Artemisinin-based combination therapies (ACTs), conducted in collaboration with WHO and international partners, he played a vital role in transforming global malaria treatment guidelines. His extensive work on Kala-Azar (Visceral Leishmaniasis) also contributed significantly to the successful elimination of this devastating disease from Bangladesh.
Equally admirable is his lifelong commitment to teaching, mentoring, and promoting evidence-based medicine among generations of clinicians, including those working in remote and underserved regions.
This honor is not only a recognition of an extraordinary physician, researcher, and public health leader, but also a proud moment for Bangladesh.
Wishing Prof. Faiz continued good health and many more years of inspiration and service to humanity.
