Bow Island Emergency Services

Last night at 9:10PM, BIFD was dispatched out for mutual aid with the Foremost & District fire Department to a combine fire on RR 80. The County Tender and Rescue 1 responded. Once on scene, our firefighters assisted Foremost Fire with extinguishment of the combine.
All units were back in service by 12:30AM.

Training this week was spent setting up and working with portable water systems. These setups are essential when fighting fire in rural areas without a hydrant system.

Pre-incident planning is essential for gathering site and building information so firefighters can respond safely and effectively to emergencies.

Over the last few weeks, groups of our firefighters have been touring the Bow Island Water Treatment Plant to be better prepared in case of an emergency. A huge thanks to the plant operators for the great tour!

The remainder of training this week was a review of our Medical First Response equipment and protocols.

Big thank you to ATB for organizing an amazing lunch raising funds for our department. Also a thank you to FMP, Integra Tire, Island Market, Brenda’s Kitchen, Muffin’s Muffins and PepsiCo/Fritolay and Shamrock Colony for helping make this event a success. Thanks to groups like this we are able to continue to improve our tools and training!

Over the last two weeks of fire practice, our firefighters have been honing their skills with live fire training. Training with live fire is one of the best ways to fine-tune fire attack and hydraulic ventilation techniques.

Today at 12:34PM, BIFD was dispatched for mutual aid with the Etzikom Fire Department for a vehicle fire near RR 92 and TWP 82. The County Tender, Rescue 1, and Rescue 3 responded. Firefighters assisted with extinguishment of the vehicle fire and a small grass fire.
All units were back in service by 3:00PM

Monday night's practice was spent flowing water while working on nozzle control and hose movements. A great way to cool down on a hot evening!! 😎

It took a while to get the exam results back, but a huge congratulations is in order to all 8 SAFR students from Senator Gershaw school. All 8 students are now Level 1 certified Firefighters in Alberta. Congratulations Isack Hamm, Maria Hamm, Shayla Hodgson, Tamara Iwamoto, Ian Pahl, Lily Snortland, Loki Thacker and Sophia Wever!
