JAPANESE PRIMROSE - (Today at Hillendale Perennials) 100+/- pots of Japanese Primrose (Primula japonica); seed was collected in 2025; plants were propagated and grown on this year (2O26); and will be sold next year (2027). This selection (with 5 flower colours) was originally selected from plants grown in a Bible Hill, NS garden, that was planted around 50 years ago; hence it's an extremely hardy selection.

JUST 'FRITTERING' AROUND! Fritillary Butterflies (probably Great Spangled Fritillary Butterflies; however, we have 3 species (2 common, 1 rare) of Fritillary Butterflies in Nova Scotia and I have trouble telling them apart). Photos taken in our Gardens on Wednesday; Butterflies are feeding on Purple Coneflower and Joe-Pye W**d.

"IT'S A WRAP!" Our last Nursery open day for 2026 is today, Friday, August 7 from 12noon to 4pm. We will, however, periodically have pots of sunflowers at our Roadside Self-serve Table; as they become available over the next couple of weeks. Available at our Nursery today: pots of dwarf sunflowers; pots of basil, parsley, Greek oregano, and a few other herbs; and a select final offering of perennials: astilbe, columbine, rhubarb, swamp milkweed, irises, daylilies, ornamental grasses, variegated heliopsis (see photo); and a few odds and ends.

PLUS; a NEW ADDITION for today: 3 litre pots of FLAME WILLOW ($10ea.). NOTE: Tomorrow, Friday August 7 (12noon to 4pm) is our last Nursery Open Day this year. We will, however, have pots of sunflowers and various other products periodically available at our Roadside Self-serve for the next couple of weeks +/-.
