What does “built to last” actually look like after years of daily restaurant use?

In 2022, 57 Edwin chairs entered service at The Royal Hotel in Picton. Four years later, we went back to see how they had aged.

The original chairs remain in daily use, with no need for repairs or refinishing. When we asked General Manager Sol Korngold how they’d held up, his response was simple: “Not a single loose leg!” The Royal added another 12 in 2024.

That visit became the first story in Aged Well, our ongoing series exploring how thoughtful furniture design and craftsmanship perform over time.

The Palmerston Stool didn’t start with a brass footrest.

Originally designed for residential use, the brass was added as it moved into hospitality projects, protecting the wood where it sees the most wear.

What started as a practical addition became part of the Palmerston’s design.
