RBR's Director of Marketing, Stefan Stimson, is joining Iain Francis at Australian Marine Sciences Association (AMSA2026) this week, presenting "Power as a design constraint: instrumentation philosophy and its consequences for autonomous ocean observation" — a look at how that one constraint shapes almost everything else in instrument design.

We're heading to Nipaluna/Hobart for the 2026 Australian Antarctic Research Conference (AARC), 25-28 August.

Hobart is the gateway to the Southern Ocean and homeport to the RSV Nuyina and RV Investigator. It is also the centre of Antarctic science for CSIRO, Australian Antarctic Division, and University of Tasmania IMAS, and AARC brings together Australia's Antarctic research community — from glaciology and oceanography to biology and geophysics — to look at where Antarctic and Southern Ocean science is headed over the next decade.

Our Director of Marketing, Stefan Stimson, will be there for the week. If you're attending too, come find him - he'd love to chat.

Continuing a busy month on the road, RBR heads to Vitória, Espírito Santo, for the IX Congresso Brasileiro de Oceanografia.

Organised by AOCEANO Brasil and Federal University of Espirito Santo, CBO'2026 is Brazil's national oceanography congress and is hosted this year on an island city wrapped around Vitória Bay.

Representing RBR, ocean data specialist Max Vergara-Jara will lead a short course, "A field-ready logger: a short course on RBR instruments and Ruskin," giving participants hands-on time with RBR instruments and Ruskin software to prepare them for time in the field.

You can find Max at booth 12 to talk about all things oceanographic and explore how our latest innovations can elevate your research. And whilst you are there, enter the draw for an RBR stand-up paddleboard.

After another amazing event in Newcastle, NSW, we're pleased to send Jack Marsh of Bluecoast Consulting Engineers home with his new RBR stand-up paddleboard. He won't have to take it far home or to use it either — he's based in Bluecoast's Newcastle office and is surrounded by some of the best coastline and waterways around.

Let RBR take the pressure off!

Ever wonder what your underwater pressure logger is really measuring? Two things at once: the weight of the water above it, and the weight of the atmosphere pressing down on the surface. That atmospheric pressure is always on the move — rising and falling throughout a deployment — so it needs to be accounted for.
