Who feels like they don't have time to workout, be active, prepare healthier meals, get enough sleep, or engage in restorative downtime because of family commitments? Its fair to say the parents of newborns are reasonably exempted from this and not everyone has the same resources and access. But universally it's easy to feel guilty for wishing to put our own fitness and wellness goals ahead of taking care of family. It's wise to consider the inverse. It's difficult to sustain your own physical and mental health, and overall well being if you're always putting your own needs last. And what happens when you break down and can't keep up anymore? Perhaps the best way to sustain the strength and energy to care for loved ones is to set some boundaries around taking care of your own well being. And sometimes(I said sometimes not always) this is breaking down an excuse for not making an effort for yourself. Ask yourself are you truly unable to make time for your needs? Or are you worried your face criticism or shame from others for appearing to put your own needs first? 08/23/2026
