Good interior design is often defined by the things you barely notice. Until they are wrong.

A dining chair that cannot be pulled out comfortably. A kitchen island that interrupts circulation. A bedside table squeezed into a narrow gap. None of these problems necessarily show up in a beautiful render, but each affects how a space works once it is lived in.

This is why precise space planning matters. Furniture dimensions, walking clearances, kitchen layouts and the distance between individual pieces must be considered together, from the earliest stages of the floor plan. These decisions are far easier to get right on paper than to correct once the interior is built.

There is no universal formula for every room. The right dimensions depend on the furniture, the layout and how people use the space. What matters is understanding how each measurement affects comfort, movement and proportion.

The most successful interiors make functionality look effortless. That effect is rarely accidental.

The Luxury of Less. Part 2.

True minimalism is not simply about having less. It is about planning more carefully.

These before and after images show what happens when every detail is considered at the planning stage. The difference is not just a cleaner appearance. It is the result of designing the space around all the things that have to be there, while making sure they do not become the things you notice first.

Electrical connections, cables, ventilation, lighting, drainage, storage and other technical elements are essential to a comfortable modern home. But they do not have to interrupt the architecture. When they are integrated into the layout from the beginning, they can disappear behind built in furniture, within walls or ceilings, and into carefully designed details.

That is where the real luxury of minimalism lies.

Clean lines, elegant proportions, refined materials and uninterrupted surfaces are not achieved by simply removing objects at the end of a project. They come from architectural planning, space planning and interior architecture working together from the very beginning.

The goal is not to choose between aesthetics and functionality. A well designed luxury interior should give you both: the visual calm of a minimalist interior and all the comfort of modern living.

Because when every detail has been thought through, technology can work quietly in the background, while the architecture gets to speak for itself.

At Villa Volt in St. Moritz, the landscape becomes part of the interior.

For this alpine residence, Zalaba Design developed an interior concept shaped by its surroundings, combining generous glazing, warm timber, natural stone, and a restrained palette of soft neutral tones.

The open kitchen and living areas are oriented towards the mountains and surrounding trees, with carefully framed views becoming an integral part of the everyday experience. Timber surfaces and architectural details bring warmth and continuity, while contemporary furniture and clean lines keep the interiors light and refined.

More intimate spaces introduce deeper tones, textured surfaces, vertical timber elements, and atmospheric lighting. The wellness area combines wood, stone, and water to create a private retreat within the home.
