🎭 RECORD-BREAKING. 800 shows. 100,000+ tickets. And now — the curtain rises on a brand-new era.

Hong Kong's well-received Cantonese musical "Our Youth Diary" is hitting the road, and its brand-new spin-off trilogy "Youth Side Story Theatre" makes its Asia Tour Launch debut right here in the Greater Bay Area! 🌏✨

The Last Hour of Ko's Coffee will be staged at Foshan Marriott Hotel from November 7 to 14. Set in a coffee shop, the play tells a touching story that unfolds within its final hour.

A good Canton Fair base is about what you don’t have to spend time figuring out.

At Conrad Guangzhou, that starts with the practical stuff:
🍳 Breakfast and an energy food pack to go
🚌 Shuttle service between the hotel and Canton Fair complex
🥤 Drinks and light bites waiting back at the hotel
👔 Up to two complimentary laundry items per room, per night, on bookings via Hilton official website, app or WeChat Mini Program while stay period from October 14–November 5

That leaves a little more room for Guangzhou.

Come back early enough for afternoon tea at GEM or trade the exhibition floor for a swim or workout. Dinner brings two Michelin Guide-listed choices: Cantonese cuisine at Yun Pavilion and Contemporary Western cuisine with a creative Chaozhou twist at Aroma.

After dinner, the evening moves upstairs to MG Bar, cocktails, city lights, and a little more time to settle into Guangzhou.

Then in the guestroom, the Pearl River and Canton Tower are still in view. There’s no rush tonight.

Grey bricks, tiled roofs, wok-ear houses, and banyan shade draw you into the lanes of Foshan Lingnan Xintiandi.

Step inside, and the traditional architecture opens into sleek modern interiors, local design, high-tech products, and even a coffee space inspired by a classic Chinese herbal medicine shop.

Keep strolling, and Foshan paper-cutting begins to take on new forms, its familiar craft translated into modern patterns and artistic expressions.

By the time dinner comes around, another part of Foshan is waiting at the table. Fresh fish and seafood are gently poached in the warm rice broth of a Shunde-style congee hotpot, inviting you to follow every delicate change in flavor as the meal unfolds.

And then the lights come on.

Heritage koi and magpie lanterns glow above the narrow lanes. Light climbs across old walls and banyan canopies. Below them, a Gen Z bazaar spills into the street, adding another social pulse to the old neighborhood.

Somewhere along the way, you stop trying to separate what is traditional from what belongs to Foshan today.

The same brick walls hold new ideas. Familiar crafts keep finding new expression. Heritage shines over a younger crowd.

At Foshan Lingnan Xintiandi, the two have been growing into each other all along. If you visit, plan a 2D1N getaway.

And perhaps the best part is discovering how much more this place still has room to become.

Guangzhou’s First MixC Is Now Open

The first thing that strikes you at Bai’etan MixC is the light.

Under the ribbed skylight, daylight picks up a pearly sheen, shifting softly across the ceiling through the day. The building opens toward the Pearl River like a shell, with semi-open facades and layered terraces embracing the river view.

The layout is the key to understanding it.

The design follows the idea of ‘One City, One Heritage Quarter, One Riverside Park.’ The main mall gives the project its scale. Etan Fang reworks the former Pui Ying Academy Huadi campus towards contemporary use, with lanes, a sunken plaza, exhibitions, cafés, and bistros. Huadi Riverside Park, at roughly 30,000 sqm, extends the project onto the riverbank as a cultural and social destination for walks, outdoor gatherings, events, and leisure time by the water.

Then come the places where people will settle in.

At Etan Fang, the lanes and sunken plaza carry a street-level rhythm: coffee, bistro tables, cultural programming, and old brick close enough to become part of the everyday scene. Upstairs, river-facing terraces gather independent restaurant concepts, open kitchens, outdoor seating, and wide views of Bai’etan.

This is where the mall begins to merge with the city: old brick, coffee tables, open kitchens, river terraces, public life, and a new waterfront lifestyle taking shape in Guangzhou.

With the eight-day holiday underway, this is the way to make sense of Bai’etan MixC: look up, follow the lanes, drift towards the river, and let the city open slowly around you.

Lanterns are already glowing across Lingnan Xintiandi, but October is when the festival moves into full swing.

The 2026 Xintiandi Festival · Fireworks of Lingnan runs through November 8, bringing lion dance, lantern displays, communal dining, bazaars, and live performance into Foshan’s historic lanes.

The biggest weekend lands on October 17–18, when the Lion Dance Masters Showdown brings together 15 teams from the Greater Bay Area and Southeast Asia for 30 performances across two days.

Seven traditional lion styles will appear alongside classic lion-dance formations, Southeast Asian high-pole routines, and a 100-meter golden dragon parade.

✨ October highlights
• Lion Dance Masters Showdown — Oct 17–18
• Long-Table Banquet — Oct 17
Fifty tables line Tiandi Road for a communal p**n choi dinner inspired by Foshan’s village-banquet tradition.
• Lion Heritage exhibition — Oct 15–Nov 8

No long journey required for this Mid-Autumn and National Day escape.

At Foshan Marriott Hotel, check into a candy journey family room, complete with whimsical antlers, a little tent, toys and colorful details for younger travelers.

Afternoon brings osmanthus-and-chestnut sweets over tea, before dinner turns to seafood, with a global seafood buffet alongside freshly made Cantonese dim sum and local favorites.

Then head outside. Foshan Ancestral Temple offers a dose of Lingnan history, Qiandeng Lake is made for an evening walk, and Denghu West Street keeps things going after dark with food stalls and local finds.

A short stay with plenty of Foshan packed into the day.

Osmanthus & Chestnut: A Taste of Autumn

Foshan’s first hints of autumn arrive at the afternoon tea table, with osmanthus and chestnut setting the flavor of the season.

At Courtyard by Marriott Foshan, the new spread pairs the delicate floral fragrance of osmanthus with the mellow richness of chestnut, carrying the combination through an assortment of petite cakes and pastries. The sweetness stays restrained, while savory bites and hot and cold drinks bring contrast between rounds.

And unlike the traditional tiered afternoon tea, this one is served buffet-style — so going back for the osmanthus cake that caught your eye is very much part of the plan.

China Ends 32-Year Dividend Tax Break for Foreigners

A tax exemption dating back to 1994 has officially come to an end.

From September 1, foreign individuals receiving dividends and profit distributions from foreign-invested enterprises in China are subject to individual income tax at a standard rate of 20%.

So, does it affect you?

For most foreign employees in China, probably not. The new policy applies specifically to dividend income and profit distributions — it does not introduce a new 20% tax on salaries or employment bonuses, including year-end bonuses.

Companies paying dividends are generally required to withhold and file the tax. The new rule took effect on the same day it was announced, with no separate transitional arrangements specified.

Some questions remain over how the policy will apply in practice, including to residents of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and foreign nationals living overseas.

What would you like to see clarified? How could the change affect foreign business owners and investors in China?
