Different lenses create different realities.

This weekend I opened all the doors of Dom Wilka with no programme, no expectations and no fixed group.

Just: come if you can, and let’s see what happens.

Around one table, almost complete strangers from very different worlds came together: conservation, environmental policy, film, teaching, psychology, branding, the Air Force, space technology, crime writing.

We talked about climate, deforestation, technology, waste, human behaviour, feminism, work, startups and money.

What struck me was how quickly professional bubbles disappeared. People became curious about each other’s work, challenged assumptions, connected unexpected ideas - and inspired one another.

One conversation about space débris cemeteries and bringing an old satellite back to Earth made it tangible: even something that seems like a simple technical problem can have consequences far beyond itself.

The bigger and more complex the challenge, the more perspectives we need.

What looks like a problem through one lens can become an eye-opener through another.

That is what All Doors Open is about.

Not only opening the doors of Dom Wilka, but opening doors between people, disciplines, ideas and worlds.

Next All Doors Open will probably be in autumn.

THE TIDE BENEATH THE IMAGE

During the years of isolation and uncertainty, my dreams return with extraordinary intensity. Vivid and surreal, they sometimes feel connected to something larger than myself - a collective longing for peace, safety, and human connection in a world increasingly shaped by power and division.

Nature seems to echo this tension. Fires, earthquakes, storms, and darkening skies remind me that balance is fragile. What appears calm from one perspective can reveal a very different reality when viewed from another side.

A few nights ago, I had a crazy and surreal dream. I felt deeply inspired to transform it into an image.

In the dream, I dove into a photograph of Copenhagen’s Little Mermaid as if it were water. Once inside, I became her. Filled with an urgent desire to help restore balance, I plunged deeper into the sea, chasing dangerous fish. There, many political leaders appeared as invasive fish - symbolic figures within the dream landscape, representing forces of disruption and control. I caught three of them in particular with hooks that emerged from my long red curls.

Back on the rock, I imprisoned them in my net. They created chaos, longing to be released back into the ocean… but slowly, they began to lose their color and their power.

When I woke, I was surprised by the intensity of the bizar story and the emotions it carried. Yet dreams are symbolic spaces where hidden feelings surface and impossible transformations become possible.

When People
Become Part
of the Art

What interests me most is the connection between people, and between people and the spaces or objects around them. I am curious about how people move through a space, how they dress, how they walk, stop, look, and interact with their surroundings.

For many years, I have photographed people in galleries, museums, and art spaces. While they look at artworks, I often wonder what they are thinking and feeling. I pay attention to their body language, their posture, and the way they respond to what they see.

For me, art is often more interesting when people are in the room. They bring something extra to the artwork and the space. Their presence creates new stories and new ways of seeing.

This series is about those moments. The people in the photographs are not only looking at the art - they become part of it. Their movements, expressions, and presence add another layer to the scene. In a way, they become artworks themselves within the photograph.

From time to time, I will share images from this ongoing series. I hope the people I photographed are ok for me to post them, because they are an important part of these moments where art, space, and people come together.

I have loved land- and nature art all my life and experimented with building sculptures in nature for many years! As a great fan of the Italian artist ‘Giuseppe Penone’ I felt inspired to merge these two trees into one photograph. Representing an odd feeling of life happily going and growing on while crumbling and appearing hollow from underneath…. How to interpret is up to you. …

Handshape Project _ Wall of Unification

There are moments in life when we reach out our hand without wondering whether the person is a friend or a stranger. That is because we are all humans and fundamentally the same. Handshape was born from this, from a longing to build bridges, not walls. It is a symbol of our collective aspiration for a better world, the world we want to live in. 

Handshape is about stepping out of your comfort zone and opening up to someone new. By sharing stories, we discover how much we have in common. To capture this moment, two people form a Handshape together by pressing their hands into soft clay during a friendly handshake.

Meike realized this project in 2019 over te course of one year together with project partner Ivan Gabor and wonderful team.

On 9 November, for the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, two large art installations Walls of Unification where exhibited. Each installation held approx. 5,000 handshapes. The final goal was to make 10.957 handshapes, one for each day since 9.11.98. One was placed inside the memorial building, and an outdoor pavilion allowed passersby to experience and add their own handshape.

This Monument to Human Connection could be visited for over 3 years inside the Berlin Wall Memorial. 
The project brought together people from all backgrounds across all 12 Berlin districts, visiting markets, festivals, parks, schools, stations, exhibitions, and more. Each Handshape was archived online, allowing participants to revisit their manifest with a stranger.
