ames is a German-based furniture company with Colombian roots and a strong passion for unique and traditionally hand-crafted textiles, home accessories and furniture. ames’s Managing Director and Creative Mind Ana María is fascinated by traditional craftsmanship since her youth and has always been a passionate collector of various handcrafted objects. To create products which spread Colombian joie de vivre, Ana María founded the label ames in 2006. In its early years, ames focused on modern and functional furniture series inspired by organic Colombian forms. Further collections including home accessories, textiles and outdoor furniture followed. ames collaborates with internationally established designers who are willing to immerse themselves into the diverse and fascinating culture of Ana María’s home country. Purchasing an item of the ames collection means bringing a touch of Colombia to your living room.

Bringing Colombian joie de vivre to your living room by creating wonderful, unique and traditionally handcrafted designs is one of ames’s main goals. But there are other aspects that are very important for our company: a happy team is always of top priority. ames has close and personal contact to the artesanos who manufacture the collections in various regions in Colombia. Behind every product is a beautiful story of craftsmanship, tradition and independence. ames encourages single mothers and young men without career opportunities as well as small family-run manufacturies in outlying regions. It is Ana María’s sincere wish to support the people of her home country and to uphold traditional crafts which otherwise be forgotten. Furthermore, ames values sustainability and environment protection. We focus on a resource-friendly production and use mainly natural materials for all of our products.

We’re delighted to have celebrated our Moroccan debut during the inaugural Morocco Design Week MOROCCO DESIGN joining our local partner for BEYOND CRAFT, an evening dedicated to the dialogue between artisanal savoir-faire, contemporary design and art.

Bringing Colombian craftsmanship to Morocco for the very first time, this special occasion marked an exciting new chapter for ames, celebrating the shared appreciation for craftsmanship, creativity and cultural exchange.

Today, our hearts are with the families, friends, and communities affected by the earthquake across Cali,, Valle del Cauca , Chocó, the Coffee Region, and all areas impacted. We stand in solidarity with the people of our country, holding them close in our thoughts and hoping for strength, safety, and healing in the days ahead. Together, we will find meaningful ways to support those who need it most.

Crafted entirely by hand in small family owned manufactories in Colombias Tolima province, our iconic Barro Dining collection by Sebastian Herkner celebrates the beauty of traditional craftsmanship. From digging the terracotta to firing and polishing each piece, every step is carried out by hand, resulting in objects made to be used, shared and lived with for years to come.

All pieces in the collection are entirely Heat resistant and designed for everyday gatherings around the table.

We’re happy to introduce our new Milpesos Nest. As one of the countries with the greatest diversity of bird species in the world, Colombia became an important point of inspiration for this special project. The idea of creating spaces for coexistence in which craft, design, architecture and biodiversity meet, felt especially meaningful to us.

What began with our Milpesos lighting collection by the Dutch design studio and a deep fascination for the Seje palm, naturally evolved into a living habitat designed by our own studio at ames. An Object made for nature itself.

Handwoven by our artisans in Córdoba, the Milpesos Nest is crafted from the same remarkable Sehe palm fibers used in our lamps, a slow growing material native to Colombia’s northern coast and shaped through generations of artisanal knowledge.

Lightweight yet protective, the nests can be suspended indoors or outdoors, offering shelter for birds and bats while blending into their surroundings through their soft sculptural presence.

A very special project, and one very close to our hearts.

As Milan Design Week always passes by far too quickly, we wanted to look back at a few of our novelties you may not have had the chance to fully discover.

From the sculptural presence of our new Amazonia chair by Cristina Celestino, to the expanded colour palette for our Cielo collection by Sebastian Herkner, alongside handwoven textiles such as Palomin, Cuerda, Saná and Milpesos.

Each piece continues our dialogue between contemporary design and Colombian craftsmanship.

A Luminous Figure. Our Tupies Lamp by Sebastian Herkner evolves into a freestanding, sculptural presence. Handcrafted from Colombian Fique fibers and woven into layered macrame fringes, it’s tactile body meets a mouth blown glass crown where they come together in a distinct playful, yet refined composition.
