From forest to furniture.

Last week we took a group of architects and interior designers into Frederiksdal Storskov for an afternoon among the trees. Forester Andreas Deltorp led the way along Lake Furesø, through the history of Danish forestry and past some of the largest trees in the country.

The day ended at Frederiksdal Bådebyggeri og Snedkeri, where master cabinetmaker Malte Gormsen spoke about the place and about how local timber is dried before it reaches our workshop in Herlev. Soup came from our good friend Bo Bech and Restaurant Bobe

Some of our furniture starts years before it ever reaches the workshop floor.

In February 2023, we felled oak trees in the forest district close to our workshop at Frederiksdal Boatyard and Joinery. For this oak, we’ve handled the whole process ourselves - felling, milling, and drying under cover - a process that typically takes three to four years.

It’s not just mindful, it also means less goes to waste. Smaller, uneven pieces that would normally be discarded become things like chair legs and armrests - keeping the material’s story intact from forest to furniture.

The oak has now been drying under cover for more than three years and just needs one final run through the kiln before it can be worked into tables - something we expect to happen this autumn.

Sankt Annae Series - Named after a Copenhagen neighbourhood. Shaped by years of collaboration between Space Copenhagen and Malte Gormsen Møbelsnedkeri.

The series is guided by an elemental approach to furniture making. Structure and material are allowed to speak for themselves. Every part serves a purpose, every detail emerges from the logic of construction. The forms are restrained yet generous, familiar yet difficult to place within any single tradition. Each piece is in solid wood with seat and back woven in paper cord — a tactile expression of warmth, durability, and human touch.

Sankt Annae is a part of Malte Gormsen Kollektion and includes: MG105 Dining Chair, MG106 Dining Chair with arm rest, MG107 Lounge Chair, MG107 Lounge Chair with Wide arm rest, MG107 Lounge Rocking Chair, MG111 Bar Stool, MG112 2-Seater Sofa, and MG113 3-Seater Sofa — all made in our workshop in Herlev.

New pieces and Danish craft at 3daysofdesign - Join us: 10–12 June.

This year we’re presenting new pieces in the Malte Gormsen Kollektion, including a bar stool in the Skt. Annæ series by , the Trapeza chair by , and a tall version of the existing MG406 stool by . All made at our workshop in Herlev, where we carry forward the tradition of Danish furniture craft and bring time-honoured techniques together with the latest technology.

Bespoke woodwork for a private home in Copenhagen :: In collaboration with John Pawson, we have had the privilege to bring a series of bespoke woodwork pieces to life for a private residence north of Copenhagen. A project with clean lines and a consistent rhythm integrated in the woodwork that flows effortlessly across different rooms. Every piece of the woodwork has been made bespoke, from the built-in wardrobes and kitchen cabinetry to the bathroom and wall panelling. Crafted with meticulous attention to detail.
