Searched for "Buy Online" Reached 27K in March 2020

SEMrush has looked at how searches for various terms have changed over the period of the Coronavirus. Searches for “buy online” skyrocketed in March globally, reaching up to 27K+ searches per month. This compares to about 15K searches at the start of the year.

Another keyword to see a boost in searches is “unemployment”. Unemployment does, of course, negatively impact buyers’ confidence and consumer spending. There were about 7.5K searches for “unemployment” in March, compared to just 1K in January.

70% More Time Spent Across Facebook Apps Since the Crisis Arrived in Italy

With many people having more time on their hands now, along with increasing uncertainty about what is happening around us, it is unsurprising that people have turned to social media. Also, in places where people are in lockdown, they have used videoconferencing and messaging apps to remain in contact with families, friends, workmates, and clients.

Facebook has released statistics relating to the use of their family of apps in Italy since the crisis arrived there. They have seen 70% more time spent across their apps. Instagram and Facebook Live views doubled in a week. They saw messaging increase over 50% and time in group calling (calls with three or more participants) increase by over 1,000% during March.

Good UX design is all about putting the user first. Any aspect of a website, app or software that doesn’t consider the user’s needs is ultimately doomed to fail. A huge part of the UX design process is getting to know your target audience: what are their goals? What are their challenges? What motivates them, and how do they move? The entire product should be built for these people, so don’t even think about opening Sketch until you’ve done your user research.

Why base your design on actual content?

Many designers create wireframes and comps with “lorem ipsum” filler text.
Using dummy text often results in an aesthetically pleasing but unrealistic design. What’s worse, it creates the illusion that content is secondary.

The fact is that users come for the content, not the design. Content is by far the most important element in user interface design.
A webpage with a simple structure but quality content performs much better on usability tests than a nice layout with subpar text.

Less choices and features result in higher satisfaction
Having choices is considered a good thing.

We are used to choices and we value dearly if we can be in control.

However, the more choices a website or web application offers, the harder it is to understand the interface.
Studies show that having too many options often leads to decision paralysis and frustration.

As a general rule, people only value an abundance of features before they actually start using the given product.
After they have started using it, the simpler solution wins with higher satisfaction.
