EGYPTIAN ALABASTER

Egyptian alabaster is a type of translucent calcium carbonate mineral that forms in sedimentary deposits. It is primarily found in the region around Luxor, Egypt, which was historically known as Thebes. The ancient quarries in this area yielded the prized alabaster stone that was used by civilizations across millennia.

Egyptian alabaster stone has a range of applications across different artistic and architectural contexts:

Alabaster was used to create architectural details such as columns, reliefs, and panels in ancient structures. Its ability to diffuse light added a sense of ambiance to interior spaces.

Alabaster’s translucent quality made it a desirable material for lamps and lanterns, as it created a soft and warm illumination when light passed through it.
