Our Story

What we do?
Hodhod Home Decoration is a company for custom made furniture, lighting and other kinds of home decoration. We deliver high quality furniture.

How it started?
When you are living in Egypt, you see that most furniture is custom made, unlike in the West, where it practically all is being produced in large factories.
But despite that there are so many carpenters in this country, due to several cultural differences, it is actually very hard to find beautiful products, with a high quality finish, build according to your wishes and delivered up to your expectations. We try to fill in that void in the market.

Finding the root of the problems, is key to finding the solutions
When you look for the cause of this difficulty, there are several reasons.
- Due to lack of good education,
- Lack of good examples (Idols),
- No drive to always strive to climb higher, to raise the level of quality,
- No drive to create something new, or research what the market wants,
- The general lack to look with a healthy dose of self criticism to your own service or products,
- A lack of desire to be proud of your finished products,
- Lack of good equipment, tools or skills,
- Lack or much difficulty of being able to find quality base materials.
- Generally, required job skills and tasks are very shallow. On average, an employee is is only required to deliver a very small portion of the whole process, in contrast to the West, where an employee is required to offer a vast amount of skills and routines for his job function.
This results in in a very shallow job, and that the employee is only seeing a very small portion of the whole picture. He/she is only providing a very small portion of the process. This results in a very detached stand toward the product or service he/she is providing. It’s not the end product he/she can be proud of, since it’s a product or service, made by many hands.
- Also, this is a very rigid and very conservative culture when it comes to changing habits. Often, processes and habits are already the same since many generations. Looking critical to a process or habit and changing them in order to be more productive or provide a higher quality, is generally not something you will find in an individual. Even though the product or service may not be good, you often will receive the answer “That's how we always do it”, instead of the question “How can we do it better?”.

- Last reasons, is that the carpenters here, never finishes his own products. He is only doing the design and building.
The finishing, which is a by complexity and intensity, a job in itself, is never provided by the carpenter himself. This creates much room for error. Creating a nice piece of furniture, requires many skills to build a solid structure. It requires many good skills, machinery and tools, to fit all the various pieces of wood, with joinery, glue, nails, dovels, screws and other techniques, together. The finished build, is just the raw product. It’s just half of the the product.

After finishing the second step, building the furniture, the raw product is already good (If you had the luck of finding a good carpenter, which are scarce to find), and potentially beautiful. But it still needs the finishing. Finishing the furniture, can make or break the product. There is still much sanding to do. Some correction and fixing of imperfections in the wood or construction, which come to some degree naturally with building furniture. After that, comes the conditioning of the wood, the treatment before applying the finishing on the furniture. And then at last, after much and labour intensive preparations, the actual finishing can be done. This too, requires many skills, good knowledge, correct working order without skimping in preparation steps, good equipment and materials.

The painters, are hindered by the same problems mentioned above for the carpenters.
So, actually finding a good finishing company, is just as hard as finding a good carpenter.
Most often, the carpenter has already teamed up with a finishing company (Painter) to provide the finishing for him. So, as a customer, you don’t have any influence about the quality of finishing.
Preparations before applying the finishing coats on the furniture, is the most labour intensive part of the finishing of furniture. Most painters here, skip almost every step, or handle an incorrect workflow, before applying the finish. Painters prefer to apply a dark finish, in an attempt to hide most of the bad work of the carpenter and their own. Of course, applying a dark finish, will hide some of the broddle work being delivered, but still, most of it, is still clearly visible in the “finished” product, or will heavily affect the durability of the finishing.

As you now may understand, making furniture, is more than just piecing together a few pieces of lumber with some large nails and applying a paint coating over it. Which, is actually exactly what you get with most carpenters here. It clearly shows in the end product.

Knowing the problems, we can work on the solution
Now we know all the problems, we can build on that, and avoid all the earlier mentioned problems. To fill in the large void in the market, to find Western style, quality furniture, we started Hodhod Home Decoration.

We are always open for innovation, constantly try to improve and and always look critical to our work processes and finished products.

How we work?
In contrast to most carpenters here, we offer a showroom, to showcase our building and finishing quality, before placing your order for furniture with us. We offer some items for sale in our showroom, but most products functions as display item, to showcase the product quality and finishing. Our showroom is opened after office hours, from 5 to 8 pm, Sunday to Thursday.
We offer in our showroom a digital catalogue and portfolio, which might help you to find the piece of furniture you search for, or even a complete style to use for your room.
Since raw (building) products and materials are heavily affected by price fluctuations, do we only build furniture after quotation, which is carefully prepared after feedback from one of our specialist who is going to build the piece. We have fixed prices. We handle the same prices for all our customers, no matter who they are or where they come from.
Acceptation of the quote can be effectuated by signing the order and paying half of the quote value as the down payment. Upon pick-up or delivery, the final payment is expected.
At large orders, you can be requested to pay in 3 terms. Half at the start, 1/4 near the end of production and the final 1/4 at delivery / pick-up. We do not work and deliver based on installments after delivery.
Upon delivery or pick-up, the full order value should be paid, and where applicable, increased with delivery and installation costs.
