Paris always gives me a reason to return. This time, it was Armand-Albert Rateau.
Reading about his work made me think of all the times I’d walked along rue Barbet-de-Jouy without knowing that the apartment he designed for Jeanne Lanvin had once stood there. Sometimes it takes a little time, a little reading, and a second look to notice what was there all along.
What I find compelling about Rateau is the way he considered the whole: the furniture, the space and every detail as part of the same idea. It’s an approach to design that continues to resonate with us at JoverValls.
I’ve written about him for the second chapter of The Study Library. It’s now on our blog.

Modern Organic is not defined by a single form, colour or material.

It is a way of understanding space through balance: clean architecture, tactile surfaces, softened volumes and materials that gain depth with time.

In this language, leather brings warmth and character, while rounded forms create a more intimate relationship with the space.

The Hug collection by JoverValls is part of this interpretation. A collection shaped around enveloping volumes, tactile presence and the quiet comfort of a piece designed to remain.
