Madonna’s Confessions II era keeps unfolding - link in bio

Following the release of “Bring Your Love” with Sabrina Carpenter, Madonna will premiere a cinematic presentation of Confessions II at the 2026 Tribeca Festival on 5 June.

Built around the first six tracks from the forthcoming album, the visual piece suggests this is more than a new record. It is a full sensory world: dance floor, film, ritual, fame, intimacy and surrender.

The mirrorball has become a screen.

Between languages sits responsibility🔗Link in bio

Interpreting is not neutral word transfer. It is judgement exercised in real time. Every decision about tone, emphasis, clarification, or restraint carries ethical weight.

Accuracy matters. But so do power, access, and consequence.

Ethics in interpreting is not a paragraph in a handbook. It lives in the micro-decisions: when to intervene, when to hold, when to preserve discomfort, and when to prevent harm. Professional practice is shaped as much by moral awareness as linguistic skill.

Between BSL and English, that responsibility is constant.

Between languages, there is no neat swap.

In Part 1 of a new three-part reflective series, I begin with the myth of one-to-one translation. After 35 years working between BSL and English, I’ve learnt that interpreting is less about equivalence and more about effect, judgement, and cultural navigation.

“The Myth of Equivalence” explores why meaning rarely travels as a replica, and what really shapes the work instead.

Barriers Are Not Accidental

A Deaf-Led View from the Interpreting Front Lines Let’s get one thing straight: as a British Sign Language (BSL) interpreter, I operate in that magical sweet spot where Deaf and hearing worlds are meant to shake hands politely and get on with the business of mutual understanding. That’s the theory, anyway. In practice, it’s more like refereeing a game where only one team got the rulebook — and the other’s been told they should be grateful the match is even happening....

I’ve just published a new blog post that’s been sitting with me for a while.
It’s about a remote interpreting job where I realised, early on, that my lack of preparation meant Deaf staff weren’t being heard as they should have been. I stopped the meeting and said so, on record. The meeting was postponed.
Was it comfortable? No.
Was it flawless? Definitely not.
Was it the least wrong decision? I think so.
This piece explores ethics as a living practice, not a checklist. The moments that follow you home. And why sharing those moments matters. This isn’t about heroics or rule-quoting. It’s about judgement under pressure, accountability, and why ethics in interpreting doesn’t live in a code alone, but in real-time decisions and what we do with them afterwards.
Ethical choices are rarely clean. Often they’re just the least wrong option available.

The Bit That Caught Me Off Guard It was a remote job like any other on paper—a prep meeting for Deaf travel agents at a global holiday company. They were preparing for their new roles, discussing h…
