Strata - The Chair

Somewhere between a dining chair and a lounge chair, Strata brings together generous proportions, strong geometry and inviting details.

The bold seat and armrests create a confident silhouette, while the rounded legs soften the overall expression. Finnish birch veneer gives the body its fine-lined surface, complemented by layered birch legs in electric blue and cool grey.

A playful balance of comfort, colour and form.

Thank you Coloured Wood Products for the supply of the materials.

Strata - The Cabinet

More than storage.

The Strata cabinet combines a minimal geometric body with rounded legs that visually continue into the handles. Its front and back share the same appearance, allowing the piece to function as both storage furniture and a space divider.

Finnish birch veneer reveals fine wooden stripes, while the layered, dyed birch legs and handles introduce electric blue and cool grey into the natural material palette.

Functional, sculptural and playful, designed to stand confidently in a room from every angle.

Thank you Coloured Wood Products for the supply of the materials.

Strata - The Side Table

A tabletop, rounded legs and a little twist.

In the Strata side table, the legs extend upwards to visually hold the tabletop, turning a simple structural element into the defining feature of the design.

The contrast between the geometric tabletop and the rounded legs gives the piece its playful character. Finnish birch veneer reveals fine wooden stripes, while the coloured birch elements add bold accents in electric blue and cool grey.

A small piece of furniture with a strong personality.

Thank you Coloured Wood Products for the supply of the materials.

Strata: Bold and Playful

Layers of wood, bold geometric forms and rounded details.

Strata is a furniture collection consisting of a chair, a side table and a cabinet, bringing together Finnish birch, electric blue and cool grey in a playful, contemporary expression.

The name Strata refers to the layers that define the material and the design itself. Finnish birch veneer is laminated into blocks and cut to reveal fine wooden stripes, while layered, dyed birch elements introduce unexpected colour.

Strong forms meet softer details in a collection that celebrates the character of materials through simple, distinctive design.

Thank you Coloured Wood Products for the supply of the materials.

The peace of the countryside and creative freedom are key factors in my work. They provide the perfect environment for innovative design.

A big thank you to Chris-Tomas Konieczny Photography for the fantastic photographs of my newest furniture project.

Tansu / A Quiet Balance of Craft and Function

Inspired by traditional Japanese Tansu storage furniture, the Tansu collection brings together Japanese and Finnish design traditions.

Historically, Tansu furniture was modular and mobile, adapting to changing living situations. This idea of flexibility remains at the heart of the collection.

Tansu combines minimal design with everyday practicality. Natural Finnish birch and birch bark bring warmth, texture and a quiet Nordic character, while subtle handle details are inspired by traditional Japanese fittings.

The entire collection is designed and made in Finland using Finnish materials.

Tansu 1 was presented in Tokyo during Interior Lifestyle in the NEXT area, dedicated to young and emerging designers. Feedback from visitors and research carried out in Tokyo helped inform the development of Tansu 2.

A project exploring what can happen when Japanese and Finnish design traditions meet through material, craft and function.

Supported by Kuopio Academy of Design Foundation, Arts Promotion Centre Finland, and the Finnish Furniture Foundation.

Traditional Japanese Carpentry in Tokyo

One of the highlights of my trip was a visit to Inoue Hamono , a shop specializing in traditional Japanese hand tools for carpentry, which also displayed examples of high-quality furniture.

A visit to the Edo Taitō Traditional Crafts Museum provided an overview of traditional carpentry as well as ceramics, jewellery, and glassmaking. Visits to various traditional wooden buildings, such as temples and shrines, completed my research into traditional woodworking.
