Making An Icon
Hidden away in his archive for fifty years, Hans J. Wegner’s CH20 Elbow Chair was considered too labour-intensive to produce at the time it was designed in 1956. Part of his series of ‘Round Chairs’, it was finally put into production in 2005, establishing itself as a timeless modern classic.
Attention to detail reveals itself in every step, shaped by skilled artisans. Refined heartwood highlights its purity of form, from the distinctive steam-bent backrest, crafted from a single piece of wood, to the moulded veneer base, made from 11 layers of ply. Its dynamic shape is finished with a sleek upholstered leather seat pad, almost floating on a compact light frame.
