Well….. we appear to have touched a nerve! 💡🤣
We thought the tray debate got you talking.
Then we asked about matching sofas and chairs.
But apparently neither comes close to asking one very dangerous question…
THE BIG LIGHT — ON OR OFF?
Judging by the comments, some of you would rather sit in complete darkness than allow that thing to be switched on. 😂
And we have to say…
We’re with you!
Lamps on. Candles lit. Nice cosy room.
Big Light firmly OFF.
Thanks for another brilliant response — we’re loving hearing how you actually live in and style your homes.
Now the only problem is…
what on earth do we ask you next? 👀

The big light….. ON or OFF??💡😱
We’ve tackled trays.
We’ve tackled matching furniture.
But now it’s time to risk friendships, relationships and possibly marriages…
The Big Light!
Are you perfectly happy sitting in the living room with the main ceiling light blazing away?
Or are you firmly in the “TURN THAT THING OFF!” camp — lamps on, candles lit, nice cosy lighting and absolutely no circumstances under which the Big Light is acceptable? 😂
We’ll admit our bias…
At Rubislaw, the Big Light is OFF.
But what happens in your house?
💡 ON — I genuinely don’t see the problem.
🕯️ OFF — lamps only, thank you very much.

And if you’re a Big Light person… prepare to defend yourself in the comments. 😂

Well…. you definitely didn’t all agree on this one!
Yesterday’s tray debate was easy — you were pretty much unanimous. The tray stays.
But today we asked…
MATCH OR MIX?
Should your sofa and armchair match, or does bringing in a different colour give the room more personality?
And this one has certainly divided opinion!
Some of you love that beautifully coordinated, matching look. Others are firmly in the mix it up camp — and think a contrasting chair makes the whole room more interesting.
And actually… we think you’re both right.
That’s the lovely thing about furnishing a home. There really aren’t rules — it just has to feel right to you.
Thanks again for getting involved. We’re rather enjoying these little debates… and judging by the comments, so are you. 👀

MATCH… OR MIX?
Yesterday you settled the great footstool debate — the tray stays! 😂
So here’s the next one…
When it comes to your living room, do you like your sofa and armchair to match?
There’s something beautifully put-together about a matching set… but then again, introducing a different colour can completely change the room and give it a bit more personality.
Same Balmoral furniture. Same room. Two very different looks.
So which are you choosing?
💚 MATCH — Heritage Green all the way
💜 MIX — bring in the Deep Purple
We have a feeling this one might divide opinion a little more than the tray did… 😂
👇 MATCH or MIX? Let’s hear it.

Well that settles that then….!
Earlier today we asked the question…
To tray or not to tray?
And unless we’ve missed someone, you were pretty much unanimous — TRAY! 🙌
We have to admit, we agree.
A beautiful footstool is made for putting your feet up, but add a good wooden tray and suddenly it earns another job — coffee table, drinks table, remote control headquarters… whatever you need it to be.
So there we have it.
The Rubislaw verdict: the tray stays. 👌
Thanks to everyone who joined in — judging by the response, we might have to make these little home debates a regular thing…

To tray or not to tray…? 🤔
We’re curious about this one…
A beautiful big footstool like our Balmoral can be the perfect place to put your feet up — but add a large stylish tray and suddenly it doubles as a coffee table too.
Practical? Stylish? Or does a tray spoil the whole point of having a big, luxurious footstool?
What do you do at home — tray or no tray?

This is where the Balmoral begins.
Before the velvet. Before the cushions. Before a Balmoral ever reaches your living room, there are skilled hands behind it.
Frames built and assembled by hand.
Fabric individually cut.
Springs fitted.
Cushions carefully filled and finished.
Every stage done properly, because furniture designed to last starts with what’s underneath.
We wanted the Balmoral Collection to be more than a beautiful sofa. We wanted it to have the quality and craftsmanship to match.
These photographs from the factory tell that story better than we ever could.
The Balmoral. Beautiful on the outside. Properly made on the inside.
Some furniture fills a space. The Balmoral makes a room.

🍂 Autumn is coming… and the Balmoral was made for it.
Darker evenings. Softer lighting. A good film, a glass of something nice and absolutely no intention of going back outside.
This is when your living room really matters.
Deep, luxurious velvet. Incredible comfort. Beautifully made and designed to be the place you actually want to spend those long autumn evenings.
Available in Deep Purple, Heritage Green, Midnight Blue and Mocha — four colours that somehow look even better at this time of year.
