Dealing with bleach spots and sisal damage is our ‘bread & butter’ and I could post very often with these.
-
However, here is something a little different. A 100% Wool, s**g pile rug to dye three different colours, green, yellow and red in equal sections.
-
The client said she contacted quite a few companies who advised her it couldn’t be done. However, I sometimes like a challenge and knew with the right preparation and expectations it was worth a go.
-
The wool fibres are about 10cm long and very thick, so I knew I needed a lot of dye solution. I contemplated many methods, like dipping 2/3 of the rug in yellow, the 1/3 in blue etc... but decided to do one section and one colour per day.
-
I started in the middle with the Yellow and having covered the non yellow areas with paper, masking tape and towels, I started to apply, using a hand wand sprayer, the 5 litres of dye I’d made up. It quickly became apparent the dye was only penetrating the top third of the fibre, so I went through each tuft row by row and quickly ran out of dye. I made some more solution and ended up using 8 litres, but it was looking pretty good, but not all the dye was down to the base of the pile.
-
For the green, I decided to dip the rug in the dye solution to get better pe*******on. I made up 12 litres of Green and after dipping, I saturated the area with a sprayer to further even the colour and fill-in any gaps.
-
I did a similar thing with the red but used 20 litres of dye!!
Once fully dry a small white line remained between the red and yellow colours, this was easily dealt with detailing with the smaller colour repair equipment.
Overall, relieved to have a very happy and satisfied customer and colourful rug.

Carpet colour damage caused by the dust from wood filler. It attacks the blue and sometimes red colour on Nylon 6.6 carpets and is typically found on brand-new carpets. The damage can be greatly improved with dyeing saving from expensive renewal and the upheaval of replacing. The photos show one done a few days ago.

Another Sisal job done today, it's very tough to get a perfect match... pretty happy with the result, the client was very happy. 🙂

This is a Wool, Twist pile carpet which started as a Tea spillage.
The client tried their best with various DIY carpet spotting and cleaning products, but became increasingly disheartened when the stained area kept getting lighter and larger!
They considered claiming on the home insurance, but didn’t like the idea of putting an otherwise perfectly good carpet into landfill and having the upheaval of installation.
They were thrilled with the result, the colour repair blended in really nicely, and if you didn’t know about the original stain, you wouldn’t now know :0)

We all know the sun can fade the colours in our carpets, but did you know the lost colour can be replaced?
The UV rays from the sun attack the Red colour, so normally we just have to replace the red to bring the original colour back.
If you have carpet in front of large windows, try moving some furniture to see if there is any colour difference.
You can then find out if your carpets colour can be restored with a free consultation.

A Wool Beige carpet with light patches on a landing. A very light beige added to blend it in and make it far less obvious.

Another Dark Red wool carpet with a light patch. Clean the spot. Add a load of Red, a bit less Yellow, some Blue and a touch of Black to darken... Leave to simmer (dry)🙂
