Many of you know that Highwood is well known for our hand made Sgian Dubhs

But did you know that we also make them with a wooden blade?
For those occasions when you would prefer not to be carrying the real thing.

Of course, in the UK carrying a sgian dubh is perfectly legal as part of our national dress, but even so and for many reasons, some of our customers would prefer not to

And lets face it, the timber in these "blades" is so beautiful in its own right

Pictured: Ash, Oak, and Sycamore variants of the Highwood Sgian Dubh blade, all with attention to detail and with all the features you can expect to see on the real thing.

With each new Highwood piece comes something new and a little bit exciting. This time it was a 120 million year old Sinohydrosaurus fossil. These ancient water lizards were most recently protected by a rough pine frame. Its owners had a vision which Colin helped bring to life.

Doesn't this beautiful elm and the soft lines of this piece allow the treasured fossil to claim pride of place in its home. Scroll to last picture to see it back home.

With limited storage at our workshop we choose carefully what timber we store here. Which means we know well what we have and are always on the look out for the right project to match these special pieces.

Maybe you have an idea for something that needs the materials and design to be truly special and unique to do justice to your space.

With a few projects nearing completion we have design space and build time available in the coming weeks and months - depending on the size of your project.
