Contrast doesn’t have to mean introducing a bold colour.
You can create just as much visual interest by putting different finishes, textures, shapes and materials alongside one another.
Think smooth against textured, matt beside something with a little sheen, curved furniture against straighter architectural lines, or warm timber alongside metal.
It’s these differences that give the eye somewhere to go and help stop a room feeling flat - even when you’re working with a very simple colour palette.

We love the Liang and Eimil Botanical Floor Lamp; it looks stunning in our client’s home. It’s a great example of statement lighting, and it complements other elements in the room. You can see that it picks up the gold pattern of the curtains, a small but important detail.

When planning a new kitchen, flooring might feel like a decision that can wait. We’d recommend making it much earlier.
Before you sign off on your kitchen, you should know what flooring you’re going to use. The colour and tone of the floor will influence how your cabinetry, worktops and wall colours sit together, so choosing it afterwards can leave you trying to make an important part of the room fit decisions that have already been made.
Our tip? Put samples of your flooring, cabinetry and worktop together before you commit to any of them. It’s much easier to spot what works — and what doesn’t — when you can see the whole picture.

A beautifully styled home isn't created by buying everything from one collection.
It's built over time with favourite books, treasured finds, family photographs, travel souvenirs and pieces that tell your story.
Those personal touches are what make a house feel like home, and they're often the details people remember most.
When you're styling a room, don't just ask yourself whether something matches. Ask yourself whether it means something to you.

Every home has one spot that seems to collect... everything.
A console table by the front door, a coffee table, a bookshelf or a kitchen worktop.
If you had 15 minutes to restyle just one area using only the things you already own, which would you choose?

When styling a room, it's easy to think something is missing and keep adding more.
Often, the opposite is true.
Giving decorative pieces a little breathing room allows each one to stand out and creates a calmer, more considered look.
If a shelf or sideboard doesn't quite feel right, try removing one item before buying something new. Sometimes that's all it takes.

One of the biggest styling myths is that everything has to match.
In reality, the most interesting interiors combine different materials, finishes and shapes to create a space that feels layered and collected over time.
Try mixing:
• Ceramics with glass.
• Natural wood with metal.
• Smooth finishes with woven textures.
• Tall and low accessories together.
The result is a home that feels balanced, interesting and uniquely yours.

Shelves are often one of the hardest areas of the home to style, but a few simple principles can make all the difference.
Think about creating layers, varying the height of your accessories and mixing practical pieces with decorative ones. Books are particularly useful for adding height and helping displays feel more balanced.
Finally, don't be afraid to edit. If your shelves are feeling busy, removing just one item can often make the whole display feel calmer and more considered.

One of the simplest ways to make your styling feel more natural is to create layers.
Rather than lining everything up neatly, try overlapping pieces slightly. A framed print can sit behind a vase, a candle can sit in front of a stack of books, or a decorative object can partially overlap another.
These small changes help create depth and make a display feel thoughtfully put together rather than carefully lined up.

A home doesn't have to change dramatically with the seasons. Sometimes it's the colours, textures and finishing touches that subtly transform the atmosphere of a room.
Natural materials, fresh artwork and thoughtful styling can all help create a lighter, more relaxed feel that works well beyond the summer months.
