🔥 FIRE DOOR SAFETY WEEK: THE COMPLETE CHECK
Throughout Fire Door Safety Week, we’ve highlighted several individual components—but a fire door must be assessed as a complete doorset.
When checking a fire door, consider:
🚪 Door leaf and frame condition
📏 Gaps around the sides, top and threshold
🔩 Hinges, fixings and other ironmongery
🔥 Intumescent strips and smoke seals
✉️ Letter plates and other apertures
⚙️ Self-closing devices
🔒 Locks, latches and handles
🪟 Fire-resistant glazing and glazing systems
🧱 The condition of the surrounding wall and frame fixings
🚫 Evidence of unauthorised alterations or removed hardware
Look for splitting, warping, impact damage, exposed door cores, loose components, damaged glazing or holes left by removed ironmongery.
Most importantly, check that the door closes completely into its frame and is never wedged open.
Every component works together. One damaged, missing or unsuitable part can affect the performance of the entire doorset.
