The ARTlings have filled our window for September with their wonderful work 🎨
The ARTlings began life at the old Hummingbird Studio, where several of them first picked up a brush under Bar Spurr’s guidance. Years on, they are still painting together, growing along the way. Now nine strong, they meet at the studio every Tuesday afternoon and work across a variety of mediums including, watercolour, wet on wet, pen and ink, pastels, collage, alcohol inks and more. They occasionally bring in a guest tutor, but mostly just paint side by side and finding their own individual styles 🖌️
Come and join The ARTlings for an open evening on Friday 11th September, 6-8pm. You’ll be able to browse the work on show and meet the artists behind it. Do pop in and join them for a drink, some nibbles, maybe music and definitely a chat!
Their window display runs through September, so there’s plenty of time to catch it even if you miss the open evening.
ARTlings: Debbie Long, Nadine Tomkins, Pippa Aldridge, Corrine Nash, Andy Pickford, Kay Ramm, Anne Campbell, Lorraine Butcher and Gus Ferguson.

Our July window exhibition features 3 artists, Anne Campbell, large abstract style paintings in Alcohol Inks, Nadine Tomkins, Photographs in Colour and Vlad Cohen, Ceramic Sculpture and Pottery 🤩
✨ Anne Campbell
‘In my career as a professional pianist, performing, lecturing, and teaching, I immersed myself in the colour and nuance of the ‘Impressionists in Music’ - Ravel and Debussy. This fascination has prompted the art I have produced in my paintings. I am a self-taught artist and my style is both intuitive and improvisatory. The use of alcohol inks and watercolours allows me a wide freedom of expression.’
✨ Nadine Tomkins
‘Although I have been painting in watercolours for many years my true love has always been photography. In my twenties I had a Canon camera and set up a black and white photography darkroom in our house. I’ve always loved colour so it’s only natural to turn once again to photography, and display some of my favourite colour photographs.’
✨ Vlad Cohen
I am a Ceramic artist mostly focused on sculpture, as well as quirky pieces of functional pottery. In my studio near Preston Park I work with stoneware, using a variety of hand building techniques, as well as wheel throwing. I like to think of the creatures I create as conjured spirits who accompany me in my creative exploration.

We have a gorgeous new window exhibition by Pippa Aldridge ✨
‘I have been painting for years, first taking lessons from Baa Spurr in Brighton and later in France at the Ecole de dessin where Iived in Saintes. I started mainly in acrylics then moved into watercolours. Lately my watercolours have been more delicate in contrast to my textile and printing creations. Over the last few years I have been to several courses to improve my mixed media techniques. I now use fabric paints on canvas then various printing materials and finish with free embroidery, influenced mainly by Ellie Hipkin a local Brighton Artist’
Pippa’s work will be on display for the month of June, so make sure you pop along to see it.
All pieces are available to buy, please contact Pippa directly: [email protected]
