This has been this biggest project I’ve taken on, and probably the most important.
I’ve been living in this Luton van box for a few years now, I need more space.
Me and my brother got the final wall plate up last night, I feel like that’s most of the difficult bits done.
Feeling very fortunate to have a spot to do this under these oaks.

The next big milestones will be getting the roof joists in & cutting out the side of the van box.

Final trimming and measuring of this scarf joint.
This is the final large component of my timber frame. A long wall plate, out of two pieces of white cedar ( I believe thuja ocidentalis) from .

Manoeuvring these big timbers isn’t easy, and cutting the joints is slow for me. I’m not able to do as much as I would like to in a day.

Scribing in these three schouldwr has been very difficult.
Many because of how much work it is to move the components.
I’ve got all three pretty good and the posts seem to be square and in the right place.

They will probably be fettled a little more. Then I can move onto the other joinery.

This week I’ve finished the ground work for when the frame is eventually raised. This needed to be done now because I needed to know where the bottom of the posts will sit .

Hard work on the brain and body timber framing, FairPlay to you lot doing this kinda stuff.

ANOTHER CREATIVE STOOL WEEKEND DATE ADDED

Our August course has just one spot left, so we’ve added another on 12th - 13th September.

Thank you those that have booked on or supported Ｓｋａｗｉｎｓｋｉ & I in getting set up to teach. We are getting there!

My good good mate Alex and I are hosting a weekend course at Got Greens Farm ! August 8th & 9th.

We’ll be using hand tools and green wood to make the weirdo stool in your mind.
The upmost beginner, or pro is very welcome.

About 18 months after felling these elms, I am finally doing some joinery to make an extension for my house.
Getting this constructed for winter & looking after the farm is all I can focus on right now. Working with these big timbers is really challenging and very slow.
I hope I’ll enjoy it when it’s done. For now it feel like it just needs doing
