We're delighted to share that we have finally made a significant push forward with the renovations at the old church hall.
Like many projects of this scale, we've faced a few hold-ups along the way, including having to find a new roofing contractor, which unfortunately increased some of the costs. However, we were thrilled to secure an uplift grant from Highland Council's Regeneration Fund which then topped up our existing funding and will allow us to keep the project moving forward.
Yesterday, we met with Councillor John Finlayson and Willie Urquhart from the West Highland Free Press for some photos and to celebrate our contractor being on site to start erecting the scaffolding for the first phase of the roof repair to commence.
Today brought another positive step with the delivery of a skip courtesy of Bowmans skip hire, a huge thank you to Jaqueline and team for the support and getting this organised for us. This allowed us to begin clearing excess rubbish, old plasterboard and other unwanted items from the building in preparation for the next stages of the project.
We were especially grateful for the help of some extra volunteers, John Stoddart and Ruarie Anderson who joined us for the clear-out. Their support was very much appreciated, particularly as most of our regular volunteers are in their 70's, 80's or disabled, making this kind of physical work quite a challenge. Thanks also to David ( Karen) and Den, a couple of our younger members, who completed some of the internal repairs up till now.
A huge thank you to everyone who has supported the project so far. It's wonderful to finally see real progress being made. We look forward to sharing more updates as the renovations continue.
