Are you paying to fix the same problem over and over?

Andy encountered a leaking flat roof covered in so many patches that it looked like a mosaic, but the real cause wasn’t the roof at all. Everyone’s idea of fun is different. Some people like to paint; others like to go on a shopping spree. But still others, like our Lead Storyboard Artist, Oliver, enjoy pushing themselves to the limit.

iAM Compliant offers each team member what we call ‘Live’ or ‘Love’ days, which they can use as they please.

A “Love” ♥️ day is a personal day which lets people do something joyful, like volunteering, a hobby, or simply recharging. A “Live” ☀️ Day is a day for the team to develop a non-work skill, do something charitable, or pursue a wellbeing experience, and we give them a small budget towards it.

Which brings us back to Oliver, who spent his Live Day running through the beautiful Welsh countryside (and braving the chilly October weather) 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Oliver took part in the Brenig Way 50km. He described it as a “proper slog of a trail-running ultra marathon, with not much of a path, plenty of fields, overgrown trails and no race waymarkers. You’re given a map, and off you go towards the finishing line!”

Some people are just built differently. Oliver finished in the top 10 of all racers, so massive congratulations to him: what a result!

iAM helped Oliver by giving him time off to recover after his gruelling experience, and contributed to his running fuel and race entry fee.

You catch a pupil staring into space for a few seconds. Afterwards, they seem confused.

Were they simply daydreaming? Or did they just have a seizure?

Seizures don’t always look the way people expect them to. Some may involve convulsions, but others can be brief and much less obvious. Recognising the difference could help someone receive the support they need.

Introducing Seizure Smart: Epilepsy, a new course from iAM Academy.

The course helps school staff understand epilepsy, recognise different types of seizures, and respond calmly during and afterwards. It also explains when emergency medical help may be needed.

A fire doesn't care if your paperwork is up to date.

Neither do Legionella bacteria or asbestos fibres. Having the right risk assessments completed means nothing if you don’t act on them. You must manage these three big risks.

Many schools do have fire risk assessments, Legionella surveys and asbestos management in place. But once you have those documents, you must complete the actions, evidence them, and review them regularly.

Luke and Andy call fire, Legionella and asbestos the “unholy trinity” of school compliance. Each presents a different kind of danger, but all three need proper management that doesn’t depend simply on a ‘hero site manager’ holding everything in their head.

“Are you menopausal?” and “Is there anything affecting you at work that we can help with?” are very different questions.

The first makes an assumption. The other gives someone room to ask for help.

This Sunday, October 18th, is World Menopause Day, and we’re asking you to think about the colleague who’s barely slept, lost their train of thought in a lesson and gone home wondering if they’re still good at the job they have dedicated their life to.

They might already be judging themselves too harshly. They don’t need a staffroom joke or a dismissive comment that makes it even harder to speak up.

If someone does ask for support, listen. Ask what would help. It could be as simple as a fan, easier access to drinking water or an extra planned break. Agree on changes together, then check that they’re helping.

Nobody should have to reach breaking point before they get support. Especially when this natural event is not anyone’s fault.
