🎬 PART 2: THE WORST PATIENT GEORGE HAS EVER TREATED 😂
She’s back. And somehow, George hasn’t handed in his resignation. 🙃
After surviving what Siân described as an absolutely horrific treatment experience (George maintains she was being ridiculously dramatic), it was time to see whether the treatment had actually worked.
First up, re-testing the exercises that originally caused pain:
✅ Bulgarian split squats — PAIN FREE
✅ Leg press — PAIN FREE
Next, we brought out the VALD Dynamo to re-test her force production.
And here’s where things get interesting… 👀
📊 HIP FLEXION
Left: ⬆️ 4.2%
Right: ⬆️ 16%
📊 HIP EXTENSION
Left: ⬆️ 4.7%
Right: ⬆️ 59%!! 🤯
The best part? George hadn’t done a single strength exercise with her.
The treatment focused on reducing pain and addressing the restriction that was affecting her movement.
Pain can inhibit our ability to recruit muscles effectively and produce force. By reducing pain and potentially some of that inhibition, Siân was able to demonstrate significantly improved force output — without actually increasing her underlying muscle strength.
A perfect example of why identifying what’s limiting someone’s performance is just as important as strengthening the muscles themselves! 🧠💪🏼
As for the rest of the appointment?
George tried to explain the results.
Siân argued.
George demonstrated the improvements.
Siân argued some more.
George pointed out that his treatment had clearly made a difference.
Siân reluctantly accepted that he might actually know what he’s doing.
The hip is functioning better. The relationship is still a work in progress. 😂
After years of working with professional athletes, George has officially discovered that his most challenging patient has been living under his roof all along.
The results speak for themselves. It’s just a shame Siân never stops talking long enough to hear them. 🙃
