Ever heard of the Baader-Meinhof phenomenon? The frequency illusion: spot something once, and suddenly it’s everywhere 🔍

Take a wee saunter round some of our favourite haunts in the neighbourhood, and you’ll start noticing Mirrl on the surfaces and tabletops – each one completely bespoke, with as much character as the place (and the people) it’s found in 🍦

Please be seated – been a wee while since we showed off some furniture 🪑

Here’s one of our past collaborations with Adam Nathaniel Furman: the HK Furniture Collection. The forms of this chair came straight from Adam’s inspiration - a playful Japanese tale about Hitotsume-kozo.

As Adam put it: “For this collaboration, based on stories my grandfather would tell me about a little one-eyed boy who would jump out in the middle of the night and try to lick you.”

Turning that folklore into a chair pushed us to experiment with our materials, developing a method to heat and mould the surface onto a bent plywood substrate to create the curved seat back, casting it in a U-shaped channel to get those soft, rounded edges.

We built working prototypes of the collection and displayed them at the Design Exhibition Scotland showcase (swipe for the complete set) 👁️

Yup, we do bothies, too 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Barra is pretty unique in that it’s the only place in the world where planes land on the beach - it’s now also home to a bothy rocking a Mirrl worktop.

This one’s completely off-grid, with water sourced from a well (who needs a tap, anyway?) and power tools are cordless, with no option to recharge the batteries nearby 🙃

So we have to be verrry careful with consumption, relying on more traditional handcrafting to get the details just right. Oh, and you need to take every last little thing you may need to the island, as there’s little to no chance to pick up forgotten bits and bobs down the road.

We chose a vibrant red, complemented by granite greys and subtle steel blue popping through, matching the bothy’s red-doored façade and the moody Atlantic oot the window 🌊

External cladding in lustrous copper and cool stone for Govanhill Housing Association, as part of their former refurbishment by .

Initially commisioned to create the internal reception table, John additonally requested this external cladding after discovering the weatherproof properties of Mirrl surfaces.

Bold Formica colour choices make the room pop. We used those same colours to make custom Mirrl surfaces for the space - look at that seamless blend into the sink there, *chef’s kiss*

Really love these door handles and k***s we made for a French school redesign by .voelker_architecte - the little splashes of colour bringing joy to the calming neutrals of the space. Hope the kids love them!
