From quarry block to finished fireplace.
These photos show just a small part of the journey that natural stone takes before it arrives in a customer's home.
It begins with a block of Portland Limestone, weighing several tonnes and freshly arrived from the quarry. From there, our team carefully measures, cuts, shapes and finishes each component by hand in our Chiltern Hills workshop.
Every detail matters. Every profile, every edge and every surface is worked to ensure the finished piece is not only beautiful but built to last for generations.
It's easy to admire a finished fireplace, kitchen worktop or staircase, but behind every project are countless hours of craftsmanship, experience and attention to detail.
This is what stonemasonry looks like behind the scenes.

Quartz and quartzite are often confused, but they are actually very different materials.
Quartzite is a natural stone formed over millions of years beneath the earth’s surface. Every slab is unique, with natural movement, veining and character that cannot be replicated.
Quartz, on the other hand, is an engineered surface. It contains natural quartz crystals but is manufactured using resins and pigments to create a more consistent appearance.
Neither material is better than the other.
Quartzite offers the beauty and individuality of natural stone, while quartz provides a practical, low-maintenance surface available in a huge range of colours and designs.
The right choice comes down to your priorities, your lifestyle and the look you want to achieve.
If you’re comparing materials for a new kitchen, we’d be happy to help.

We supplied and installed the stone around the swimming pool along with the surrounding paving and detailing. It’s a material that works beautifully outdoors thanks to its soft light tones, natural variation, and timeless appearance.

It takes a huge amount of work behind the scenes to turn natural stone into something ready for someone’s home, and these photos are just a small glimpse into that process.
