🚨 WOOD CRIME ALERT! 🚨

We saw a post from someone wanting to paint their beautiful American Oak furniture…

And honestly… we need a minute. 😳😂

American Oak.
Beautiful natural grain.
Gorgeous character.
A timeless wood that gets better with age.

And the plan is to… PAINT IT?! 😱🎨In white gloss ! …

Now, we know everyone has different tastes (and we’re all for doing what makes you happy!)… but sometimes we think it’s worth stopping and asking:

“Do I really want to cover up all that natural beauty?” 🌳

Would you paint beautiful oak… or would that be a wooden crime in your eyes? 😂👇

🌳 OAK OR PINE? 🌲

The age-old question… and we want to know which one gets your vote! 👀

🤎 OAK — timeless, durable, naturally beautiful and full of character.

🌲 PINE — versatile, warm, rustic and perfect for creating that cosy country feel.

So, if you had to choose…

Happy Yorkshire Day! 🌹 Here's a post from Oak & Pine by Design:

---

**Happy Yorkshire Day! 🌹**

From the rolling Dales to the wild Moors, from Whitby's harbour to the stone villages we're proud to call home — there's nowhere quite like Yorkshire.

It's not just the scenery. It's the craftsmanship, the grit, the "say what you mean" honesty, and a heritage built by generations of makers, farmers and dreamers who shaped this county with their own two hands.

At Oak & Pine by Design, that spirit runs through everything we build. Every grain of timber, every joint, every finished piece carries a little bit of Yorkshire in it.

Yorkshire's heritage is worth protecting — its landscapes, its traditions, its craft. It's ours to look after, for the generations who'll call it home next.

Proud to be Yorkshire, proud to be makers. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

**Happy Yorkshire Day, from all of us at Oak & Pine by Design.**

# # Restoration & Reproduction: Victorian-Style Arched Panel Door with Stained Glass

**The Piece**
A striking stripped pine door featuring a bold circular stained glass window — nine hand-leaded panes in rich cobalt blue, deep amber, and emerald green, set within a perfectly turned circular frame. Below, three tall arched fielded panels give the door real presence and craftsmanship, with an original letterbox and knob-hole still intact.

**Era & Age**
Style and construction point to the **late Victorian to Edwardian period, roughly 1880–1910**. The circular "porthole" stained glass motif with a nine-pane grid was a popular decorative feature of this era, often found on townhouse and terrace front doors across the UK. The arched fielded lower panels are typical of the joinery techniques of the time — solid timber panels, mortice and tenon frame construction, no modern fixings. The door has since been stripped back to bare pine, revealing the original grain and joinery beneath old paint layers.

**The Brief**
- Full restoration of the existing door: repair joints, address timber damage/movement, re-secure and reseal the stained glass panels, refinish the woodwork
- Build a matching **reproduction door** as an exact copy, using traditional joinery methods and matching stained glass colourways/pattern

**Our Approach**
As skilled craftsmen, we're equipped to handle both sides of this job:
- Careful assessment and sympathetic repair of the original — preserving as much period material and glass as possible
- Precise measuring and pattern-matching to reproduce the arched panel layout and circular glazed window
- Sourcing or hand-cutting matching stained/textured glass to replicate the original palette
- Traditional mortice and tenon joinery on the new piece, built to last as long as the original has

Whether it's delicate restoration of an irreplaceable original or building a faithful copy from scratch, this is exactly the kind of work we specialise in — no job too intricate, no detail
