A massive thank you to The Ipswich Society for their lovely piece, we're really grateful for the time you've spent to post this!!
Another in our series showcasing our great variety of independent retailers:
Carats - Butter Market
Carat: A unit of weight for precious stones equal to 200 milligrams.
Carats Jewellery is a family owned and run business which was founded in Butter Market in Ipswich in April 1985 by Ian Bishop, who ran it with his wife Heather for 35 years.
On leaving Northgate High School in Ipswich, Ian and Heathers' son, Hayden (pictured), joined the family business when he was 18. When Hayden's father retired 9 years later, in 2020, Hayden took over the business, while his mother still works there part-time. Carats Jewellers has been designing, making and selling jewellery since April 1985 and are just about to start their 42nd year in Ipswich.
'Our aim is to produce and sell modern and stylish jewellery in gold, white gold, platinum and silver, and can design and create jewellery to your exact specification. We are a family run business, and we pride ourselves on the quality of our products, and the high level of service and aftercare we deliver to our clients and customers'.
Hayden, who is an Ipswich boy born and bred also said, “The success of the business depends on the team members within it, so it is important to recognise and reward continued hard work and dedication. “This comes across in our high level of customer service, which we feel is the reason customers come back to use us time and time again.”
One of their skilled staff, Louisa, has been with them for 28 years.
Hayden concluded, “We have some amazing local, independent businesses in Ipswich and I think we should all celebrate the fact we are still here and able to do what we love.”

Took this out of our display to photograph as it just kept catching our eye. Sits beautifully when worn and catches the light perfectly.

Feels like we’re finally moving out of winter mode.
Lighter colours, fewer layers, and jewellery that actually catches the sunlight again.

Spring is definitely teasing us with it's arrival and we are all too ready for hair up, sleaves rolled, and earrings back on show. These are already first in line for the brighter days ahead.

Keeping it simple today but certainly not boring. This clean, silver combo always gets commented on when worn. A classic and a favourite

Could this be our favourite signet ring yet? We think it might be. With just the right amount of vintage details and character, we really can't stop looking at it.

Jewellery should be worn.
If you’ve ever wondered why some pieces react and others don’t, it’s usually in the detail.
Don't mind us, just getting ready for the social event of the season. If we are attending the ton, even from the sofa, we will not be underdressed.
We had great fun picking out some of our most opulent and decadent pieces, all with our favourite characters in mind. Which look would you choose?
