More nostalgia from village life & the Pine Shop.
Here we are at the village green, during a summer fete in Mountsorrel, Leicestershire. My mum loved entering us for fancy dress competitions. We had a stall on The Green, selling antiques and vintage items, long before it was trendy, as well as our handmade pine furniture.
The skeleton in the background is called Roger and he’s been in our living room since before I was born. I never thought it was strange to have a skeleton watching tv with us!
That’s me in the photo. I look after the Pine Shop’s social media on behalf of my father. I look about 8 years old in this photo, so I’m guessing it’s around 1985/86.
So you see, it’s truly a family affair! Support local, independent businesses.

The Pine Shop has been in the village of Mountsorrel since the early 80s, but the building is listed was the village blacksmiths. It’s been there for a couple hundred years serving the community & those passing along the Old A6. There are 3 generations of our family who help to run the business. The shop is run by the carpenter who makes the furniture, often from reclaimed or repurposed wood and repairs old pine furniture. This is sustainable produce at its finest, community dedicated local independent shopping. The furniture we sell has legacy and is built to last for generations. We are more than just a pine shop, we sell so much more and we can make bespoke items from scratch to your measurements. We sell garden furniture, antiques and vintage ware, unique and unusual gifts.
There is always something new in the shop, this week we’ve got organically grown tomatoes for 50p! And our village book swap always has some great books.
Come see us, we’re open all day this bank holiday.

The future isn’t mass-produced, it’s human-made.
In a world of automation and endless scrolling, what we’re really craving is connection.
Imperfection.
Story.
Soul.
The fingerprints behind the product.

Human-made means intention over speed, craft over convenience, meaning over noise. It’s choosing something that was created, not generated, something that carries time, care, and a piece of someone’s life.
That’s not the past. That’s the future

We can make to order bespoke furniture for you. Bring measurements and we can make something totally unique. Our carpenters are old school so please bring measurements in inches!!

Look at this beautiful dresser we have fully restored.
It’s a beautiful large, dresser and a one off.
Scroll across šŸ‘‰ for measurements. Price is Ā£695 and it’s a one off piece, once it gone it’s gone.

Coffee’s story starts with a legend: a goat herder in Ethiopia noticed his goats dancing after eating bright red berries. ā˜•āœØ

From there, coffee traveled through Yemen, where it was brewed by Sufi monks to stay awake during night prayers, before spreading across the world through bustling trade routes.

By the 1600s, coffeehouses became the original ā€œsocial hubsā€ of cities like London & Leicester, places to gather, share ideas, and connect… much like our favorite cozy corners at home today.

Checkout this unusual coffee table, quite unique and only one in store. And if you do love coffee come have a little cruise around our shop and head to one of the village’s lovely coffee shops.

From ancient rituals to your morning cup, coffee has always been about bringing people together.
