Following on from last Friday this final piece on the finished wardrobe.
To enhance the effect of the design chosen I added touches of gold glaze to highlight parts of the furniture, whilst giving a subtle touch to the geometric design. The doors and mirror sections were painted red and again a gold glaze was added to highlight the fil-e-grie design on the panels. New hinges were required before all the constituent parts of the wardrobe were reassembled. Finally a new set of ceramic pattern k***s were added to continue the unique feel of the furniture. On the inside I added hanging rails and a brass swivel belt hook which came from the original wardrobe.
Upon arrival at the clients home the wardrobe parts were assembled in its final spot before the client viewed the finished artwork. "Oh that's incredible!" was the initial response and another happy client utterly blown away.
In conclusion- The process was made particularly easy because of the clear communication between the client and myself which enabled me in fully understanding their ideas and thereby presenting to them a functional art piece that blended with their design vision. Further pieces are now being updated for this client. I thoroughly enjoyed this project even with a strict colour palette. While the geometric designs take some time to apply I am excited about the overall effect of the piece.

Nine Years ago whilst at a barn sale I notice a framed but very damaged fabric art piece that was covered in dirt and had water damage. Something about the works resonated with me so I bought it. On returning home I careful removed the piece from its damaged frame and cleaned the fabric to reveal a scene of the Arch de Triomphe, Paris from 1957 by the artist Bernard Buffet. The long term damage due to water exposure had caused the fabric to disintegrate and split the works into two pieces.
After carefully storing the works for the last nine years I have decided now to mounted the piece and use the damage as part of the works appeal.
I hope you too enjoy how I have presented the art work!

Continuing the story of the Wardrobe from last Friday...
The commission-To update the wardrobe in an artistic eye-catching manner using the bedroom colour scheme that had already been selected by the clients. Their vision for the room was a red feature wall and deep cream accompanying walls and ceiling in which to display various artworks. The furniture was required to be eye-catching, uniquely artistic and to stand out as "functional furniture art". The clients allowed me a free range of expression to create the visual effect they required. The challenge initially was to bring back the piece from its previous attempts at updating and the limit of the two colour palette.
Processes- Initially the wardrobe was dismantled into its constituent parts and all ironmongery removed. The decals were removed and each part was thoroughly cleaned before repairs were made to the minor dents in the architectural decorative pieces. Each part then received a sanding process to prepare the wood for the paint and designs. The locks on the doors and drawers were cleaned and oiled and matching keys sourced in order that they once again would be fully functional. The base paints were applied before each part was taped in the design you can see in the accompanying photographs. I then painted and taped and painted again before quality checking the designs and touch ups were applied where required. For this project I used the Dulux Heritage Range for the Red and Cream colours.
I look forward to you dropping in next Friday when I will reveal the final look and the response from the clients.
Look forward to your comments

Hi I'm Jax, I am an artist and for the past 30+ years I have been passionately transforming spaces and furniture that expresses the personalities and desires of clients I have undertaken commissions from. I also create individual pieces that express my ideas to enhance the spaces we inhabit. This is the initial post of how the wardrobe was transformed
The antique wardrobe is over 100 years old, it had been partially adorned with stickers from previous attempts to modernise its functionality. The wardrobe has a double door either side of a central mirror panel all with decorative fli-e-grie designs upon them. The base unit has two large drawers with a moulded architrave and the furniture is capped by a castellated cornice. The wardrobe measures 166 cm wide, 55 cm deep and 211 cm tall. Although the wardrobe was showing excessive signs of wear and had previous attempts at updates the furniture was solid and of robust construction with only minor woodwork repairs required.
More to follow next Friday!
