• Here is a hall bench I made • The Oak looks amazing in the late morning Sun • Using traditional techniques allows us to use the least amount of material necessary • That leads to a surprisingly modern look • I love how the choice of joinery method can have such a major impact on the aesthetics of a piece •

• So I am really pleased to be featured in the latest The Chippendale International School of Furniture blog post • If you can get over the large closeup of my face I talk sustainability in furniture making and how we can push design to do more, here is a little taste •

"I also like to think about how objects become antiques. How can we learn lessons from pieces of the past that have lasted for hundreds of years? Objects become antiques for 3 reasons: firstly, they are built using techniques and materials that are strong enough to withstand the centuries. Secondly, people love them, and the owners care enough to clean them, look after them, and have them repaired if and when they need it. Finally, they are versatile enough to change function over time and in different locations. Whilst our pieces might not become the antiques of the future – we can always dream! – we can definitely learn lessons from the past and apply these same principles to the pieces we make"

• Life has been moving at a pace over the last couple of months • After finishing the course at The Chippendale International School of Furniture we have moved back down south • I have been busy redecorating and doing a few bits in our flat • Setting up a space to work in takes time but hopefully I will be up and running soon so I can get back to actually making things! • For now here is my stick chair looking pretty good in morning sunlight •

• My car has been in the garage so I haven't been able to get into the workshop a lot recently • So instead of an update on my lastest project check out my new blog post at https://linktr.ee/northcotefurniture • Here's a little excerpt •

"Sometimes a chair is for sitting on. Sometimes you use it for hanging clothes on at night. Importantly it is up to whoever owns it to determine its function, so as a designer I try to give the pieces I make as many potential uses as possible"
