Our Osaka exhibition Forms Across Time (Products of Modernism) is now closed. A final thank you to all at B.O.H. and staple studio ( plus best wishes to the next-in-line ) and some last impressions of our show there.
“Alongside importing the philosophy of European modernism into Britain, Isokon revolutionised furniture production through the persistent promotion of a single material – plywood.
In 1935 plywood was a truly revolutionary counter to everything that had come before; it was light, strong, flexible, and it could be formed without expensive machinery. When plywood’s unique material qualities demanded a new visual expression Marcel Breuer duly obliged. He pioneered an approach that expressed the structural strength and flexibility of the material and put the economy of form before adornment.
These same principles of design have continued to guide Isokon throughout our history.”

It is the final week of Forms Across Time (Products of Modernism) at the new B.O.H. Gallery, Osaka.
It has been an honour and pleasure to present Isokon to the Japanese public. We’ve been forced to consider how those without knowledge of our brand and its history first experience it, and it’s given us reason to reflect on our Modernist past too.
A huge thank you from us to the team at Staple and staple studio for the opportunity to present Isokon and their kind collaboration.

Forms Across Time (Products of Modernism) is now open at the new B.O.H. Gallery, Osaka. An old furniture workshop, now turned cultural space, dedicated to telling the stories behind design and making.
The exhibition explores Isokon’s Modernist legacy and contemporary work. It’s the first time such a substantial collection of Isokon works has been presented to the Japanese public.
A huge thank you from us to the team at Staple and staple studio for the opportunity to present Isokon in this way.

Isokon is delighted to be the subject of an extensive exhibition by staple studio in Kitakagaya, Osaka.
Forms Across Time (Products of Modernism) is the inaugural exhibition at the new B.O.H. Gallery, a space dedicated to ‘shine a light on the people and thoughts behind the creation of things.’
We’ve worked closely with our friends at Staple and Staple Studio to present a collection of works that tell the story of Isokon’s Modernist legacy and contemporary collection.
A huge thank you from us to the team at Staple, Staple Studio and B.O.H. for their support and hard work.

Alphabet is a retrospective exhibition of Barber & Osgerby’s work currently showing at Milan’s Triennale.
Ed Barber & Jay Osgerby were recent graduates when they stumbled across a workshop making Isokon products. What followed was a fruitful creative collaboration that lasted many years. Barber & Osgerby’s history, and that of Isokon, are intrinsically linked. It is a true honour to see Isokon products represented amongst Ed & Jay’s catalogue of era-defining works.
Isokon’s Loop Table, Flight Stool, Shell Table, Shell Chair, Portland Bench, Bodleian Chair are all represented.
Alphabet is curated by Marco Sammicheli and will be on view at the Triennale until September 6th.

Introducing the Cut-Out Chair by Marcel Breuer, designed in 1936 and now available for the first time.
The Cut-Out Chair marks Breuer’s turn towards a pragmatic and unpretentious use of plywood, a previously unrealised evolution in seating design. Today the chair still appears fresh and bold.

Introducing the Join collection designed in collaboration with Foster + Partners Industrial Design launching today .
The Join Chair has a deep and generous seat, formed in three dimensions from flat sheet veneers in a technique reminiscent of tailoring. Thanks to the strength of its moulded plywood construction, the lounge chair is spacious yet retains a slender and elegant profile. Soft angles carefully engineered for maximum comfort lend the chair subtle refinement.
